A free "Yiddish Concert
in the Park" will be pre-
sented at 2:30 p.m. Sunday
at Oak Park Major Park.
The concert is sponsored
by the Workmen's Circle,
J.T. Zukerman Culture
Fund and co-sponsored by
the Jewish Community
Council and the Sholem
Aleichem Institute in co-
operation with the city of
Oak Park.
The instrumental music
is made possible by a grant
from the Music Perform-
ance Trust Fund of the Fed-
eration of Musicians. In the
event of rain, the festival
will be presented at 3 p.m.,
Aug. 17, at the same loca-
tion.
The performing artists
are Cantor Chaim Naj-
man, Margelee Green-
Ruby and Sam Barnett's
orchestra.
Cantor Najman was born
and educated in New York,
receiving his training at
Yeshiva and Columbia uni-
versities. He served on the
faculty of the Cantorial
School of Yeshiva Univer-
sity. Cantor Najman has fil-
led pulpits in New York,
Chicago and Omaha.
In Omaha, he was
awarded the Solomon
Schechter Award for musi-
cal programming. He has
appeared in concert
throughout the country.
Cantor Najman currently
serves as cantor of Cong.
Shaarey Zedek.
Margelee Green-Ruby re-
ceived her education in
Chicago at Northwestern
University School of Music,
Roosevelt University and
Chicago Musical College.
She has appeared with the
Lyric Opera Company and

as a soloist with the Chicago
Symphony Orchestra,
Halevi Choral Society and
Reenah Choral Society.
Ms. Greene-Ruby is
currently a member of
the Michigan Opera The-
ater and has performed
with the company for the
past seven seasons. She is
a member of the choir of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek and
the Bel Canto Choral
Society.
Sam Barnett was born
and educated in Detroit. He
has served as the U.S. Army
Band Director, Fort Lee,
Va., president of the Michi-
gan Bandmaster's Associs-
tion; and head of the Fine
Arts Department of Chad-
sey High School.

Lima Bean Salad

Light meals are the order
of the day for the hot sum-
mer months. This lima bean
salad is good served with
egg salad and a jello mold.
Prepare a day in advance.
1/2 lb. green lima beans, cooked

1 #303 can green peas,
drained
1 small red pepper, diced
1 small onion, diced
garlic powder
salt
pepper
1 /4 cup salad oil
1 /2 cup cider vinegar
Mix all ingredients together,
adding garlic powder, salt and
pepper to taste. Toss well. Re-
frigerate overnight.

cabbage slaw is a tangy one
and made with a diet dres-
sing for the weight con-
scious.

1 large head cabbage, shred-
ded
1 large pepper, shredded
3 carrots, shredded
2 tsps. mustard
V2 cup Italian dressing (diet)
3 /4 cup Thousand Islands dres-
sing

Mix together mustard
and dressings. Pour over
shredded vegetables and
toss well. Serves 20.
