The annual meeting
was also the scene for
several major donations
to the hospital.
Arch of Friends Endow-
ment Fund Chairman Jane
Blumberg reported that the
outstanding sum of
$123,000 was raised by
guild members during Mrs.
Shapero's tenure. The Arch
of Friends is committed to
the encouragement of edu-
cation and research.
Ray Shapero announced a
$100,000 gift to the Arch of
Friends in honor of his wife,
Jean. This donation repre-
sented a designation of a
bequest from the estate of
Lillian B. Simons, sister of
Mrs. Nate Shapero.
These two contributions
bring the total amount
realized by the Endowment
Fund to $423,000.
Mrs. Blumberg re-
ported that the current
commitment of the pro-
ceeds from the endow-
ment fund would go
towards enriching
Sinai's Cardiovascular
Care Program. Dr. Mel-
vyn Rubenfire, Sinai's
chief, section of car-
diovascular diseases, ac-
knowledged the financial
support pledged by the
guild and showed a slide
presentation which high-
lighted some of the pro-
grams for which the
funds might be used.
Another highlight of the
guild's annual meeting was
the presentation of a check
for $65,000 made by Mrs.
Philip Krawitz, chairman of
the Sinai Gift Shop, to Irv-
ing A. Shapiro, executive
vice president of Sinai Hos-
pital. The gift represents
the year's profits from the
gift shop. Thus far, the gift
shop has raised $734,000 for
the hospital, all of which is
committed to support medi-
cal research.
