Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

AT A RECENT per-
formance of Julius Chajes'
"142nd Psalm" for chorus,
soloist and orchestra at
Kirk In The Hills, he told
John Dovaras, choir con-
ductor, "It is 30 years since I
have been in a church" .. .
and Dovaras replied,
"That's about how often I go
to temple."

MAIL DEPT. ... "Just
to let you know the entire
staff at the Oak Park Com-
munity Center is very con-
genial, polite Aid helpful to
all the seniors. They really
go all out to keep us happy
and enjoying ourselves. We
are fortunate to have the
center in our neighbor-
hood."
A Senior Member
CAN'T BELIEVE it's
already 10 years that State
Rep. Joe Forbes has been in
the Michigan House for the
67th District . . . As major-
ity floor leader of the House,
Joe has tossed his hat in
again.
WHEN THE Oak Park
Symphony Orchestra per-
formed in Major Park June
24, it was the birthday of
Gertrude Pritz, whose
hubby Hy Pritz plays with
the orchestra. At the end of
the concert, the group
played "Stars and Stripes
Forever" and then they an-
nounced Gert's birthday
and played "Happy Birth-
day" ... Not many times
that a symphony orchestra
will play "Happy Birthday"
in concert . . . and she was
quite surprised.
GEORGE IWANOW
Optical and Hearing Aids in
the Greenfield Plaza, Nine
Mile and Greenfield . . . and
in Eastland Center on Eight
Mile and Kelly Rd., is a fam-
ily setup . . . There's always
a family member at one of
the spots . . . George is usu-
ally on the east side except
Wednesdays when he is at
the Greenfield Plaza with
daughter Kathie . . . His
other daughters, Debbie
and Deanne, are at Eight
Mile.
George is fast becoming
noted for his hearing aid
centers . . . with assistance
that can hardly be seen .. .
inside the ear . . . no cords,
no wires, no tubes . . . sav-
ing people about $200 and
even giving 45-day free
trials . . . Even contact
lenses (only on Greenfield)
include one year follow up
visits and 60-day free trial.
George has been in opera-
tion since 1954.
RIDES PROVIDED for
the Central High 1940 reu-

nion, Oct. 11 at Roostertail,
are for the unescorted.
ED SCHLUSSEL was
recently presented with a
testimonial by the Hannah
Schloss Old Timers at their
26th annual reunion
dinner-dance . . . as a token
of affection and esteem for
his many years of devoted
service . . . It is one of four
given in the 26-year exist-
ence of the organization .. .
He was one of the organizers
and charter members .. .
plus being past president
. . . The group originated as
"kids" from the Hannah
Schloss Building on High
Street which was actually
the first Jewish Center.
FROM MARGE ROB-
BINS ... "Who says Fidel-
man's Resort in South
Haven has changed . . . not
the Mixers Bowling League.
Our president, Henrietta
Levine and Joe Klinger set
up a great weekend.
"Lou Popper, our stand-in
M.C. is sensational. That
guy never runs out of jokes.
Would you. believe Sam
Rodd created a Yiddish
bingo? What an education!
Gloria and Al Dunn played
the most golf rounds, but
the tournament was won by
Torchy Silverman, Marge
Robbins, Sam Rodd and
Danny Feldman. Those that
did not golf could be found
around the pool.
"The fishing team of Judy
and Ray Gottlieb, Iry Dunn,
Ed Kasmer, Mort Siegel and
Bernie Cooper had a lot of
fun and MANY fishing
stories to tell. Marilyn and
Danny Feldman, Torchy
and Mort Silverman tried
their hand at tennis. Would
you believe Ann Siegel and
Harriet Etelman took a
group of gals to town and
didn't get lost?
"Shiela Fidelman, her
son Barry, and 'Ozzie' are
the perfect hosts. The
food is still plentiful and
the greatest.
"As a final treat, the Mix-
ers stopped on their way
home at good old Jensen's
Fishery for their famous
smoked fish. The end of an-
other year!
"The Mixers will open the
new bowling season with
their annual barbeque at
the home of Erma and Jerry
Wald, Aug. 24."
THANKS ... to Beatrice
Maier . . . for the use of her
typewriter when ours went
on the blink.

NEW YORK — Religious

tribution for Cuban refu-
gees in Florida have been

sion on Jewish Chaplaincy.

EEC Diplomats,
NY Council
to Discuss M.E.

NEW YORK (JTA) — In a
major protest of the Euro-
pean Economic Commu-
nity's ,(EEC) declaration on
the Middle East issued in
Verrice last month, the
Jewish Community Rela-
tions Council (JCRC) of
New York announced last
week that it was coordinat-
ing a series of meetings with
all of the diplomatic repre-
sentatives of the EEC coun-
tries.
George Klein, chairman
of the JCRC's Commission
on International Concerns,
explained that each EEC
Consul General would be
visited by a delegation com-
posed of members of the var-
ious constituent agencies of
the JCRC.
Non-Jewish New Yorkers
will be joining the delegates
in voicing strong concern
over the recent initiatives
and overtures toward the
Palestine Liberation
Organization that have
been undertaken by many
of the European countries.

Book Details
'New Right'

"Thunder on the Right:
the 'New Right' and the
Politics of Resentment"
(Pantheon) serves as a
warning of the threat posed
by the "new right" to liber-
als and conservatives alike,
according to the book's
author, Alan Crawford.
The book, which iden-
tifies and describes the
"New Right's" leaders and
their umbrella groups, de-
tails the discontent, anger
and insecurity of the move-
ment.
Alan Crawford is a former
editor of the New Guard, the
journal of Young Americans
for Freedom, and has been
an assistant editor of Con-
servative Digest. He was
also an aide to Senator
James Buckley (R-N.Y.).

Raven Gallery
Closes Its Doors

Southfield's Raven Gal-
lery coffeehouse closed
Sunday after 20 years.
Kitty Cohen, wife of the
founder of the Raven, the
late Herb Cohen, said she
hoped the Raven would re-
open at a later date.
Mrs. Cohen sold the club
within the last year but the
new owners said the
economy prevented them
from continuing its opera-
tion. Mrs. Cohen retains the
name Raven Gallery.
