JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Israeli Supreme court
issued a temporary injunc-
tion today barring the gov-
ernment from taking over
the Arab-owned East
Jerusalem Electric Co.
which serves the West
Bank.
The high court also began
hearings yesterday on ap-
peals against the deporta-
tions of two West Bank
mayors and a Moslem reli-
gious judge.
Both cases have impor-
tant political ramifications.
The injunction, answerable
by Energy Minister Yitzhak
Modai and the West Bank
military commander, gave
the government 45 days to
show cause why its takeover
decision should not be re-
versed.
The deportation appeals
hinge on the fact that
Mayors Fahed Kawasme of
Hebron and Mohammed
Milhim of Halhoul and Kadi
(religious judge) Rajab
A-Tamimi of Hebron were
expelled without due proc-
ess required by law. They
were accused of making in-
flammatory anti-Israel
statements which, accord-
ing to the Military Govern-
ment, created the atmos-
phere for the ambush slay-
ing of six yeshiva students
in Hebron last May 2 by
Palestinian terrorists.

-'Mengele Close
to Capture'

VIENNA (JTA) — Nazi-
hunter Simon Wiesenthal
said that the notorious
death camp doctor, Josef
Mengele, is closer to capture
than at any time in the past
35 years, despite his narrow
escape in Bolivia a short
time ago.
Wiesenthal, who heads
the Nazi war crimes
documentation center in
Vienna, said, according to
the weekly Allgemeine
Juedische Wochenshau,
that Mengele evaded being
apprehended recently be-
cause the Bolivian police
did not take the necessary
measures. However, aides
of the Nazi-hunter photo-
graphed Mengele's house,
his car and his yacht and
they know his present hid-
ing place.
Mengele, who was the
doctor at Auschwitz, was re-
sponsible for selecting in-
mates for the gas chambers
and performed inhuman
medical' experiments on
Jews and other inmates re-
sulting in their deaths or
mutilation.
Wiesenthal has offered a
$50,000 reward for informa-
tion leading to the arrest of
the war criminal.

New PLO Line

STOCKHOLM (ZINS) —
In an interview broadcast
on Swedish television, PLO
leader Yasir Arafat said
that "Jews are not a nation,
but only a religious sect."
He said there are "Pales-
tinian Jews, Russian Jews,
American Jews, who the
Zionists are gathering into
a state. That is ludicrous."
