condemnation of a lack of
judgment on the part of
those who permitted such
articles to be printed.
A condemnation by Louis
Panush, chairman of the
Public Affairs Committee of
the Zionist Organization of
Detroit, declares:
The night of Nov. 9,
1938, was a night of horror
throughout Germany.
Thousands of Jewish
synagogues, Jewish homes
and shops went up in
flames, and a number of
Jews — men, women and
children — were shot or
otherwise slain while trying
to escape burning to death.
Some 7,500 Jewish shops
were looted. And then the
Jews had to pay for the de-
struction of their own prop-
erty. The insurance monies,
25 million marks worth of
damage, were confiscated
by the state and, moreover,
the Jews were subjected col-
lectively to a fine of one bil-
lion marks as punishment

"But, it is also true that
this happened after a
Jewish talmudic student
was killed in Hebron, fol-
lowed by the murder of six
Jews (including two Ameri-
cans and a Canadian) by
PLO terrorists, protected by
local Arabs early in May.
That, and all that Mr.
Thimmesch rages about
was not a Kristallnacht."
