BUNDGAARD • "Woodridge 1946" (CrOwn) by Martin Boris tells the story of the resi- dents of Woodridge, a small resort town in the Catskills. Bokis gives characters such as Phil and Arlene Er- lich, owners of the lunch- eonette around which much of the action is centered, a wonderfully realistic touch. The writer, who has been compared to Phillip Roth, includes many Roth-like sidelights in his book. There is Andy Foreman, a onetime rebel Cassanova who's been gentled by World War II service that included a look at the Nazi death camps. There is Douglas, the young soda-jerk at the lunch- eonette, whose memories of Bar Mitzva lessons with Foreman's non-English speaking grandfather pro- vide countless laughs. Boris, a pharmacist by trade, is the author of "Two Plus Two," which will soon be released as a motion pic- ture. He currently lives in New York with his family and is working on a third novel. JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics published infla- tion figures for May which showed that the cost of liv- ing index rose by 9.5 per- cent. Co-chairman is Norma Hudosh. Committee mem- bers are: Helen Atler, Anne Brad, Estelle Burke, Dorothy Friedlaender, Re- becca Goldstein, Lilian Nacmani, Rose Shur, Anne Silver and Molly Weston.
