Four young ISraeli tennis
players, ranging in age from
9 to 14, and their coach will
be in Southfield Saturday
for an exhibition on behalf
of the Israel Tennis Centers,
according to chairman
Seymour Brode and co-
chairman Norby Zucker-
man.
The event, free and open
to the public, will be held at
4 p.m. at the Franklin Rac-
quet Club.
The Israeli youngsters
represent a youth program,
in which more than 20,000
boys and girls between the
ages of 5 and 17 participate.
The program was originally
spearheaded by American
backers who formed the Is-
rael Tennis Center. Today,
the program is also sup-
ported by committees in
Canada, England, Holland,
France, South America and
Israel. This year more than
$1 million was raised for
construction of new courts,
maintenance and operation.
Three centers — Ramat
Hasharon, Jaffa and
Kiryat Shmona are in full
operation. Under con-
struction are centers in
Jerusalem, Ashkelon,
Haifa and Arad in the
Negev.
Harold
Landesberg,
president of the Israel Ten-
nis Centers Association, the
American corporation
which started the program,
emphasizes the fact that the
grogram teaches more than
tennis.
"We t e ach poise and self-
assurance. We teach 'man-
ners — how to meet people,
how to shake hands, how to
act on and off the court, how
to dress. We give to each of
these kids, many, from de-
prived backgrounds, a pro-
gram of better eating habits
and health care. We help
them to become competitive
and sportive and give them
a touch of normal, youthful
activities. The children are
better for their experiences
with the ISrael Tennis Cen-
ter."

Brode or Ron Blank, 352-
