McCoy Tyner was named
"Jazzman of the Year" by
both Downbeat and Rolling
Stone magazines.
The Katelenic Kwek
band has been playing to-
gether in Detroit for just a
year, and six months of that
time was spent strictly in
rehearsal . . . The 21-piece
group plays big band music,
much of which is composed
by pianist and director John
Katalenic . . . Gary Kwek is
featured on-baritone sax .. .
Performing with the group
this Wednesday will be .an-
other local jazz favorite,
saxophonist Larry Nozero,
who can be heard playing on
many albums with jazz
groups.

O.P. Symphony Concert in Park

"Music in the Park," the
summer concert series
sponsored by the city of Oak
Park, will presept the Oak
Park Symphony, this Tues-
day, 7:30 p.m. in the north-
west section of the Major
Park.
The concert series runs
weekly through Aug. 26. All
performances will be on
