Laszlo Tauber, a surgeon in
Washington and a
Holocaust survivor.
Unlike previous
Holocaust endeavors, the
Brandeis institute will look
at a broad range of Western
European history, begin-
ning with the time of Napo-
leon's emancipation of the
French Jews in the early
1800s.
Prof. Bernard Wassers-
tein, formerly senior lec-
turer in modern history at
Sheffield University in
England, has been ap-
pointed director of the insti-
tute, which will be named
after Dr. Tauber. _

tives, returned from a visit
to the U.S. last Friday, and

wildered and frustrated by
the seemingly endless
series of crises in the Israeli
Cabinet and the bitter per-
sonal exchanges between
ministers.
