tion on the Asian continent.
Israel, of course, plays
host every four years to the
Maccabia Games and the
International Hapoel
Games. The Maccabia
Games are often described
as the Jewish Olympics, and
bring Jewish athletes from
all over the world (35 coun-
tries) to sport competition in
the Holy Land. The next
Maccabia will take place in
1981. .
International
The
Hapoel Games also take
place every four years
(the year prior to the
Olympic Games) and
here there are no reli-
gioug restrictions so that
some of the top athletes in
the world take part.
These contests are open
to all.

Israel has participated
consistently in the Olympic
Games since 1952 when its
best individual perform-
ance was turned in by diver
Yoaf Ra'anan who took a
ninth in his speciality.
Since that time, larger and
smaller contingents have
appeared in every Olym-
piad including the 1972
Munich Games when 11 Is-
raeli -athletes were mur-
dered by terrorists. Israel
has not yet made a decision
on whether to boycott this
year's Moscow Olympics.

mensely in popularity over

Begin Praises
AZF Pilgrimage
to Jerusalem'

- NEW YORK — "The
Great Pilgrimage to
Jerusalem," a project of the
American Zionist Federa-
tion, was praised recently
by Israeli Prime Minister
Menahem Begin.
In a message to the three
co-chairmen of the project,
Rabbis Seymour Cohen of
Chicago, Arthur Lelyveld of
Cleveland and Haskel .
Lookstein of New York,
Begin said it was "gratify-
ing" to learn of the pilgrim-
age plan.
The "pilgrimage" is
scheduled to take place this
November and "pilgrimage
packages" range from 6 to

ADL Seminars
for Christians

NEW YORK — The
Anti-Defamation League of
Bnai Brith will conduct two
six-day seminars on Jews
and Judaism for Christian
clergy this month; one at
Vanderbilt University in
Nashville; the other at In-
diana University in
Bloomington. The seminars
are under the direction of
Rabbi Solomon S. Bernards
and Rabbi Leon Klenicki,
co-directors of ADL's Inter-
faith Affairs Department.

Jerusalem Post has de-
scribed the Council of
Europe's efforts to change
UN Security Council Reso-
lution 242, and their sup-
port for a Palestinian state,
as a "document written in
oil."
The Post said, ". . a
weak-kneed Europe that,
having been brought, kick-
ing and moaning, to the
point of lending, at best,
minimal support to the U.S.
on Iran and Afghanistan, is
now working overtime to
immolate Israel on the altar
of Islamic amity."
