At 75, Peerce still sings
50 concerts a year, and re-
cently gave his 40th an-
niversary recital. Last
summer, he toured Au-
stralia for the second time,
doing 17 concerts in 21 days.
At age 11 sang in a
synagogue. He was once a
struggling young tenor who
also played violin for a liv-
ing, and first became a
familiar name as tenor-in-
residence at Radio City
Music Hall between 1933
and 1941.
Born Jacob Pincus
Perelmuth, he later
called himself Pinky
Pearl, which was
changed to John Pierce
at Radio City Music Hall.
A few years later the
name was changed to Jan
Action is nobler in itself
Peerce, and this it re-
than either . thought or
mained.
After eight years at the theory.
Music Hall, he went on to
perform with the Metropoli-
tan Opera; he sang with Ar-
turo Toscanini's NBC Sym-

phony Orchestra. He
traveled world-wide as a
concert singer; he sang in
nightclubs, and for six
months appeared as Tevye
in "Fiddler on the Roof."
He has appeared on such
national programs as the
Mery Griffin Show and the
Mike Douglas Show, and
regularly makes musical
cruises of the Caribbean
aboard the S.S. Rotterdam,
in addition to his yearly
schtdule of cross-country
concerts.

GENEVA (JTA) . — The
Palestine Liberation
Organization delegate to
the United Nations and the
Ambassador of the Persian
Gulf state of Qatar found
out recently that reporters
should be made to work for
their supper.
The lesson was learned at
a gala dinner which the
Arab envoys gave at the In-
tercontinential Hotel for
three deported West Bank
leaders who were appearing
before the UN Human
Rights Commission to pro-
test their expulsion from
the Israel-occupied terri-
tory.
After a sumptuous repast,
the PLO delegate informed
the ladies and gentlemen of
the press that "We shall
now be glad to answer your
questions." This was
greeted by groans from the
assembled journalists who
had met only the day before
with Mayor Mohammed
Milhim of Halhoul, Mayor
Fahed Kawasme of Hebron
and the Kadi (religious
judge) Rajeb Buyud Tamimi
of Hebron.
One reporter rose to say
there was no point in
"damaging this dinner's
solemn atmosphere by ask-
ing questiong." A pro-PLO
correspondent admonished
