The Lechners Aid MDA Program
Dr. and Mrs. Jerome
Lechner have made a con-
tribution to Magen David
Adorn (MDA), Israel's
emergency medical service,
in memory of his parents,
the late A. Arthur and
Marie Lechner.
Their gift of $11,290 was
earmarked for additional
emergency medical equip-
ment for the Wailer First
Aid Center in Ashdod and to
establish scholarships for
paramedics program.
MDA
new
The
paramedics training pro-
gram will prepare a cadre of
medical para-professionals
to evaluate a patient's con-
dition, render emergency
aid and become proficient in
the use of sophisticated
life-support equipment.
The paramedics will be
assigned to mobile cardiac
rescue ambulances.
Dr. Morris Starkman,
chairman of the
Medical-Dental Council
and Dr. John J. Mames,
chairman of Michigan
Region, American Red
Magen David for Israel,
pointed out that this pro-
gram will enable MDA to
provide more efficient,
immediate care for coro-
nary and accident vic-
tims and for the critically
ill. -
A "Gift of Life" Award
was presented to Dr. and
Mrs. Lechner for "their
magnificent gift which will
help MDA to save lives and
alleviate pain and suffering
among men, women and
children of Israel in peace
and war, and for their con-
tinuous exemplary support
of the vital humanitarian
programs of Magen David
Adorn."
In 1976, the Lechners
dedicated a Jewish Na-
tional Fund woodland of
5,000 trees in Kiryat
Shmona in memory of Mrs.
Lechner's parents, the late
David and Zlotta Pearl.
The Lechners are mem-
bers of Cong. Bnai Moshe
and are members of the
board of directors of the
Michigan Region, ARMDI.
Akiva May Lease
Southfield School
Akiva Hebrew Day
School is negotiating with
the Southfield Board of
Education to lease either
Lathrup Elementary School
on Southfield Rd. or South-
field No. 10 on Berg Rd.
Rabbi Henoch Millen,
principal of Akiva, told the
school board last week that
Akiva now has 260 students
enrolled in kindergarten
through 12th grade, and the
school has outgrown its
leased facilities at United
Hebrew School on 12 Mile.
During the meeting, in
which the board voted to
enter into negotiations with
Akiva, Akiva representa-
tives expressed a preference
for the Lathrup site. How-
ever, Lathrup Village offi-
cials are considering pur-
chase of the property for a
new municipal building and
recreation area and lease of
the structure, if approved,
may be for only five years.
THE LECHNERS
The Lechners are in-
volved in numerous com-
munal organizations in-
cluding Alpha Omega Den-
tal Fraternity, University
of Detroit Dental School
Alumni Association,
Hadassah, Friends of the
Hebrew University, State of
Israel Bonds and others.
