The rabbi of the congregation was Rabbi Weine, a native Detroiter. Since retiring from an active role on the pulpit of Beth Israel of which he is rabbi emeritus, Rabbi Weine joined Cong. Beth Shalom in Oak Park. When the Aronows moved to the area, they joined Beth Shalom and renewed their acquain- tance with Rabbi Weine. In honor of the occasion of the Bar Mitzva, the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Bar- bara) Aronow of Southfield, will join their son on the bima to hear the blessing bestowed on hiln by Rabbi Weine. Rabbi David A. Nel- son will officiate and Cantor Samuel Greenbaum will chant the liturgy. Runners from across the state will participate in the American Cancer Society's third annual "Strides for Life" marathon, beginning 8 a.m. June 14 at Hines Park. Participants may elect to run the entire eight-day marathon or just the 25 miles between Hines Drive and Novi Road. The format states runners must run five miles then rest before ce - tinuing 'with the next f mile segment. Each runner should have a minimum of $100 in pledges in order to enter.the benefit event. Cross-state runners will cover 25 miles a day reaching the finish line in Muskegon on June 21. Food and accommoda- tions will be provided for these participants. The public is invited.
