Edgar Bronfman Election Blasted JERUSALEM (ZINS) — The election of Edgar Bronfman as acting president of the World Jewish Congress has been criticized by some quarters in Israel. Leon Dulzin, chairman of the World Zionist Organiza- tion and Jewish Agency executives, took exception to recent articles by Bronfman which criticized policies of the Israeli gov- ernment. Five local Reform congre- gations will join in a benefit Saturday evening at Tem- ple Emanu-El, on behalf of the Reform Jewish Appeal. A dinner-dance honoring Dr. Joseph and Lillian Maltzer, of Temple Emanu-El, the event will emphasize the contribu- tions that the national in- stitutions of Reform Judaism bring to local con- gregations. The event is sponsored by the Metropolitan Detroit Federation of Reform Synagogues, and will be ad- dressed by Rabbi Alexander M. Schindler, president of the Union of American He- brew Congregations, with which the federation is affil- iated. James E. Fuller, past president of Temple Kol Ami and current Reform federation president, indicated that the goal of the dinner is $100,000 to support the work of the UAHC and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, the major beneficiaries of the Reform Jewish Appeal.
