Flint Opts for Federation

The board of governors of
the Flint Jewish Commu-
nity Council has approved a
new constitution calling for
establishinent of the Flint
Jewish Federation to re-
place the current constitu-
tion governing activities of
the Flint Jewish commu-
nity.
When put into effect the
restructured community
agency will do business on a
Jan. 1-Dec. 31 basis and in-
clude membership of every
Jewish person who is a resi-
dent of the metropolitan
Flint area, all of whom will
be eligible to participate in
all the services and pro-
grams of the Flint Jewish
Federation.
In the first year, 24 mem-
bers will be elected to the
board of directors with
staggered terms ranging
from one to three years. In
the following year eight
members of the board of di-
rectors will be elected for
three-year terms.
At least four months
before each annual meet-
ing, the president, with

Host Art Show

The Shalom Group for
young adult Jewish singles
and marrieds will have a
"giant art show" 8 p.m.
Saturday' at the River Hol-
low club house, 1097 River
Valley Dr., Flint. Preview
will begin at 7.
The show will feature
original oils from all over
the world, lithographs,
Rockwell prints and more.
Refreshments will be
served, and admissiOn is
free.

Seniors to Gather
for Trips, Lunch

The Senior Friendship
Club of the Flint Jewish
Community Council has
planned a variety of activi-
ties for the forthcoming
weeks.
At 9:45 a.m. Thursday,
the group will join the
Jewish community's trip to
Huckleberry Railroad.
The June 19 event will in-
clude a noon luncheon and
games day. Marcia Fried-
man will be on hand to
check blood pressure.
Luncheon will be served
at noon June 26, when "The
King and I" film will be
shown.

Meadow Brook
Trip Is Planned

The Flint Jewish Com-
munity Council has reser-
vations for the June 29 con-
cert at Meadow Brook
Music Festival featuring
the Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra, conducted by
Neville Marriner.
The car pool will leave
Flint's Temple Beth El at
4:30 p.m. There are 25 re-
served seats in the pavilion_
and 25 reserved lawn seats.
Participants are re-
quested to bring their own
food and blankets. Checks
should be mailed to the
FJCC, 120 W. Kearsley,

Fisher Chair at Hebrew
University will be used to
develop projects to aid the
education of Israel's disad-
vantaged.

MISS NORMAN

• Mr. and Mrs. George P.
Norman of Southfield an-
nounce the engagement of
their daughter, Diana Les-
lie, to Iry Shelby, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Shelby of
West Bloomfield.
Miss Norman earned a
BA degree in secondary
education and a MA degree
in instructional technology
at Wayne State University.
Her fiance earned a BS de-
gree in chemistry at East-
ern Michigan University
and is a MBA degree candi-
date at Michigan State
University.
An August wedding is
planned.

Orthodox Nurses
Accept Settlement
in Sabbath Case

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Two Orthodox Jewish
nurses, one of them fired
and the other denied em-
ployment by the New York
University Medical Center
over their Sabbath obser-
vance time-off requests,
have accepted a settlement
under which the medical
center has agreed to notify
them. of any vacancies
occurring in the next 18
months in their nursing
specialties, with assurance
their religious'needs will be
recognized.
