Airline Settles
With Entebbe
Passenger

NEW YORK (JTA) — A
spokesman for Air France
confirmed that the company
reached an out-of-court
agreement last week with a
passenger involved in the
June 1976 hijacking of an
Air France airliner to
Entebbe, in Uganda.
According to the spokes-
man, Air France agreed to
pay Murray Schwartz the
sum of $17,500 of the
amount of $1.5 million he
claimed in his original law-
suit for damages stemming
for the airline's alleged neg-
ligence in allowing the ter-
rorist hijackers to board the
plane.
The spokesman said this
was the first settlement
reached in more than 90
other suits resulting from
the hijacking. Most of the
suits are still pending
against Singapore Airlines
and Gulf Air which were al-
leged to have carried the
hijackers before they
boarded the Air France
plane.

shopkeepers to their stores
to make sure they complied.
The merchants com-
plained that they were
being squeezed between the
Israeli authoritieand sup-
porters of the Palestine Lib-
eration Organization who
have threatened them with
dire consequences if they
ignored the strike. They re-
ported cases where PLO ter-
rorists planted bombs or set
fire to stores that were open
and said they had insuffi-
cient police protection.
Police arrested two East
Jerusalem Arabs on suspi-
cion of threatening mer-
chants who opened their
shops.
A similar situation was
reported on the West Bank
where the strike was effec-
tive only in Nablus. In Is-
rael proper, Arab mayors
announced that there would
be a general strike in
Nazareth in solidarity with
their colleagues on the West
Bank. But they rejected a
call for a walk-out of all
Arab municipality workers.
In another development,
the Supreme Court ordered
the Defense Ministry to
show cause in 15 days why
its ban on the distribution of
the East Jerusalem Arabic
newspapeis El Fajr and
A-Shaab on the West Bank
and Gaza Strip whould not
be rescinded. The ban was

ordered Sunday on grounds
that the papers' pro-PLO
views threatened public
order in the territories.

rested in Bethlehem on
