at NY Bar-Ilan Celebration

NEW YORK — Ofira Na-
von, the wife of Israel's
president, will be a special
guest at the 25th anniver-
sary •celebration of Israel's
Bar-Ilan University Wed-
nesday at New York's Hotel
Pierre.
Mrs. Navon will present
the Lapid Prize for Adult
Education to Steven

Hermann Merkin, a
long-time supporter of the
university, will be awarded
an honorary Doctor of Phi-
losophy degree by Dr.
Emanuel Rackman, Bar-
Ilan's president.

NEW YORK (JTA) — Is-
rael's economy received a
boost last week at the 25th
anniversary celebration of
the Israel Bond Fashion
Show and Luncheon at the
Waldorf-Astoria Hotel,
when more than 8Q0 women
purchased $1.2 million in
Israel Bonds to expand the
growth of that country's ag-
riculture, commerce and in-
' dustry.
Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman
(D-N.Y.) and Bess Myerson
were special guests and
made award presentations
to Eleanor Fields, who was
the guest of honor, and Etta
Goldstein, wife ' of the
former New York attorney
general. Mrs. Fields is past
chairman of the Greater
New York Women's Di-
vision of State of Israel
Bonds, which sponsored the
event.
