'The Best of Everything

(Continued from Page 32)
... when they have excel:
lent seafood dining right
in their own backyard so
to speak?
The food and service at
Fogo's is the result of hard
work by a hard-working
family dedicated to the very
finest in all they do . . . It is
this dedication that - gives
the best : . . and Fogo's has
it.
CAROLE HASKINS is
the chef now at Healthy
Jones, which is celebrating
its first anniversary at the
new,_ larger location on
Northwestern and 12 Mile
. . . Owner Joan Wittenberg
originally opened 21/2 years
ago in a small store on the
Franklin Shopping Center
strip a short distance away.
With Carole there, things
will now be even better .. .
She is considered among the
finest chefs anywhere . .
especially with her fish spe-
cialties . . . and natural
foods . . . Wherever Carole
worked, she never cooked
with preservatives . . . so
this is no new experience for
her . . . Carole and Joan are
lucky to have each other.
JIM COLEMAN . . .
(Town & Country, etc.) .. .
is the new banquet director
at Kingsley Inn on Wood-
ward.
AL LOEWENSTEIN
and his chef, Tony Palermo,
of Alfred's Restaurant in
Somerset Mall, took first
place in the North Central
Regional Chili Cookoff Con-
test in Saline, Mich. . . . re-
presenting 11 states .. .
They'll now compete on a
national scale this fall in
California.
THE BIG BAND sound
comes to Roma's of Bloom-
field on Telegraph, starting
tomorrow . . . and every
Saturday after.
IF YOU THINK making
hamburgers at McDonald's
is easy . . . you're right .. .
Being back there behind the
grill on McHappy Day .. .
with part of the proceeds
going to the Ronald
McDonald House at Chil-
dren's Hospital proved one
thing . . . it's great to do
things worthwhile when the
cause is worthy . .-.
But in making hambur-
gers on their grill, there is
another thought . . . learn
how to work the magic but-
tons . . . and drain the
grease without burning
our fingers . . . The latter
we found impossible .. .
However, happily so, the
pain went away when we
Aiksaw so many dedicated
"l7workers like Judges Marvin
Frankel and Benjamin
Friedman, Oak Park Coun-
cilwoman Charlotte Roths-
tein, Councilman Sid
Shayne, coordinator Eileen
Kushner and others . . . It's
great to help a child!
BUDDY'S PIZZA is try-
ing to work out problems for
the purchase of Great Dane
on Northwestern.
The original will remain
on W. McNichols and Con-
ant, which has become a
headquarters for softball in
Michigan . . . Any team in
uniform (guys or gals) get a

second pitcher of beer on the
house . . . and the shirt
doesn't have to say "Bud-
dy's."
DELI TRAY on Orchard
Lake Rd. is now owned by
Dave Perlin, former co-
owner of Mr. Deli on 7 Mile
& Evergreen . . . and Har-
vey Balsam, formerly with
Nosherie.
THAT 49c for breakfast is
no mistake . . . It's for real at
Sol's on 11 Mile and Ever-
green in Lathrup Landing.
TWEENEY'S CAFE on
N. Woodward west of Maple
in Birmingham, is next to
get on the jazz kick .. .
Yvonne Gill-Davis now has
it Fridays and Saturdays,
8:30 to 12:30.
THERE'S NEVER
BEEN anything like it in
the area . . . 100,000 square
feet of festive shopping and
dining entertainment all
wrapped up into one neat
bundle of excitement.
This will be the Raleigh
Square Market Place on
Telegraph and 10 Mile Rd.
. . . the same site as former
Raleigh House . . . with
work scheduled to begin
June 1 . . . and completion
hopefully by October.
The festival atmosphere
will prevail among upwards
of 150 shops making and
serving cakes, candies,
bagels, roasted and dried
nuts, pizzas, health foods,
about 25 different ethnic
breads, etc. . . . Even coffee
will be blended . . . and
there'll be fruit and veteta-
ble markets, meat markets,
fish markets, etc., etc., etc.
. . . and on and on.
Plus all this, there'll be
places with tables and
chairs for people to take
their goodies and eat
whatever ... delicatessen
sandwiches, etc., etc., etc.
from about 25 fast-food
operations a la the old
Broadway Market.
It'll be fun seeing all the
products being produced .. .
made right then and there
. . . Shopping won't be a
drag . . . it'll be a festive oc-
casion the kids will love .. .
not only especially them
though because the parents
and adults will also be
caught up in the festival
enchantment.
The market place will be
open daily until 10 p.m. . . .
and weekends til 12 mid-
night.
Also at the Raleigh
Square Marketplace will be
four full-service restau-
rants expected to be open
daily until 2:30 a.m. . . . sea-
food, delicatessen, -English
pub type with an informal
menu, and possibly Italian.
The carnival environ-
ment will prevail with
class ... and it is not un-
likely to have it visited by
more than a million
people a week ... After
all, a place like it but
smaller in Boston, sees
2,000,000 people weekly.
Raleigh House and its
property was purchased
from Moslem Shrine for
$3.5 million by the trio of
Bedros Avedian, Jean
Mahroukian and Rockwell
