this month; but both . men

Visits to centers of service
for needy Jews in Brooklyn
by local legislators gave
them a first-hand look at
the impact of proposed or
new government "auster-
ity" budgets on present pro-
grams of aid for such needy
residents, the Federation of
Jewish Philanthropies re-
ported.
Fewer kosher meals for
the aged, cutting down of
day care facilities for chil-
dren of single parents, cut-
backs in jobs for the elderly
funded by the Comprehen-
sive Employment and
Training Act (CETA) —
these were some of present
and future problems of tight
budgets, the visitors were
told.

Influence Decline

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —

tive, told a Jerusalem sym-
posium that Israel's influ-
ence on Diaspora Jewry is
steadily declining.
He said that only when
Israel becomes a spiritual
center for world Jewry will
the Jews of the Diaspora
identify with the Zionist
idea.
Former Israeli Ambas-
sador to the U.S. Simha
Dinitz told the symposium
that American Jews do not
make aliya because of Is-
rael's negative quality of
life.
