ANOTHER FIRST
comes to Michigan . . . by
Gene Kushman, new owner
of Friday's Comedy Castle
in the Pine Lake Mall on
Orchard Lake Rd. between
Walnut Lake Rd. and Long
Lake Rd. . . . an after hours
all-you-can-eat breakfast
buffet on Fridays and
Saturdays . . . from 12:30
a.m. to 4 a.m.
While in Florida, Gene
saw this at a private club .. .
and now that he has Fri-
day's Comedy Castle by
himself, puts it into practice
here.
The price is something
else, also... $1.99 . . . for
, meats, etc.
eggs, bagels
Gene's doing a lot of
things there . . . This Sun-
day and every Sunday now,
he's opening for brunch .. .
from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There's jazz each Monday
and Tuesday evening with
the Larry Nozero Quartet.
The Comedy Castle
packs 'em in Wednesdays
through Saturdays with
amateur talent on Wed-
nesday . . . and laugh-
getters from around the
country on the other eve-
nings.
There'll soon be dancing,
too, between shows in the
160-seat room.
Gene's total restaurant
seating is 250 . . . for lunch,
dinner and after-hours

DETROIT'S NEWEST FRENCH RESTAURANT

Danny Raskin's

snacking, sandwiching, etc.
Plus a well-organized
menu, Friday's Comedy
Castle takes pride in boast-
ing of its pizza and barbeque
ribs.
CARLOS
SEYMOUR'S is the name
of a new Mexican restau-
rant . 2. at former site of
Prowse's Inn on W. 9 Mile,
one block east of Livernois.
Its full Mexican menu
also has a couple of items
not available at too many
places.
Carlos & Seymour's is
owned by Bob Cicci and
Herman Yagoda . . . Their
Mexican chef is considered
among the tops.
IF YOU SEE orchestra
leader Eric Rosenow in a
restaurant with his own
bread, there's a reason .. .
He's allergic to wheat, so
wife Annie makes him
bread at home.
WONDER WHY ...
busboys take everything off
the table (some even before
you're done eating) . . . but
leave oodles of crumbs lay-
ing around?
TIP TO CUSTOMERS
. . . Check the credit card
you get back in busy restau-
rants . . . Make sure it's
yours.
MAIL DEPT. . .. "Two
d and I
years ago, my husban
moved from the Detroit area
to Cleveland, Ohio. Before
we left Detroit we heard a
lot of negative things about
Cleveland, such as . . .
there's nothing to do there,
the city is going broke, the
roads are full of holes and
the people are five=-years be-
hind the times. I must tell
you that this is not com-
pletely true, the people are
10 years behind the times.
- "Since our families still
live in Detroit, we fre-
quently spend weekends in
town. Once we hit Detroit
we like to do many of the
things that are not avail-
able to us in Cleveland. One
of the things we miss most
about Detroit is the restau-
rants. Considering that
Cleveland has a- large
Jewish population, the
range of eating establish-
ments that cater to Jewish
tastes is very limited. They
only have one major delica-
tessen and the food isn't
good.
"I haven't eaten Chinese
food here once yet because
no one can recommend 4
good Chinese restaurant. So
usually when in Detroit we
try to have one good corned
beef sandwich, one Chinese
dinner, and our favorite ..
fried fish from Mercury Fish
and Chips.
"My husband and his
family have been eating at
Mercury Fish and Chips for
years, since they were on
Seven Mile. I was raised on
Susie Q, but my husband
has long since converted me
to a Mercury Fish and Chips
lover. Which brings me to
my problem.
"Two weeks ago we
were lucky enough to
spend six days in Detroit.
Sunday night we decided
