BAHM Culture Commission Hosts Priest Who Converted Abraham Carmel, a former Catholic priest who converted to Judaism 25 years ago, will be the scholar-in-residence at Cong. Beth Abraham Hillel Moses May 16-18. Under the sponsorship of the synagogue's cultural commission, headed by co- chairmen Dr. Harris Mains- ter and Nat Fishman, Car- mel will address an 8:15 p.m. oneg Shabat May 16 on "Converting Jews." At 9 a.m. Shabat services May 17, Carmel will speak on "The Proselyte -- Bless- ing or a Curse?" He will ad- dress the religious schools graduation May 18 on "Youth and Anti- Semitism." Carmel was converted under the supervision of the Court of the Chief Rabbi of the British Commonwealth, after having served a five-year probation. He was graduated from the Fer- kauf Graduate School of Education at Yeshiva ' University and is a doc- toral candidate there.
