20 Friday, May 9, 1980 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Convention to Consider Resolution Calling for Recognition of Magen David Adorn MIAMI — The national convention of the American Red Cross, which will con- vene in Los Angeles on Monday, will consider a resolution that urges the In- ternational Red Cross to immediately recognize Magen David Adorn (MDA), Israel's national Red Cross society. The resolution, which PARK WEST SALON 626-9191 MR. KRUSE PROUDLY PRESENTS HIS STYLISTS: with BILL DUANE PAULA PIOCH STACY TUCKER LENDY JEFF KLAPER PENNY LANE TUNIS JOAN MAJKA DON MISURACA . KAREN MACK "UNDERGROUND" "AT YOUR FINGERTIPS" JODY & GALINA 6601 Orchard Lake Rd. at Maple Old Orchard, West Bloomfield Open Mon. thru Sat. For Appointment 626-9191 will be presented by the Harrisburg, Pa. chapter, states in part that "MDA has met every criteria for admission to the family of Red Cross Societies, except for an approved emblem." Magen David Adorn is still not accorded recogni- tion because it chooses to use as its symbol the Red Star of David, instead of the Christian Red Cross, Mos- lem Red Crescent, or the Red Lion and Sun of Iran. The resolution further asks that if the attempt to achieve immediate recogni- tion is unsuccessful, that the American Red Cross seek additional steps "even to the extent of taking steps to withholding operating funds from the Interna- tional Committee of the Red Cross and the League of Red Cross Societies if deemed necessary, in order to achieve recognition of MDA, and admission of that society to its rightful place in the Red Cross family." Magen David Adorn celebrates its 50th anniver- sary next month and was recognized by the Knesset as Israel's official Red Cross society 32 years ago. Magen David Adorn still remains the only national society that fully cooperates with its worldwide parallel bodies and meets all condi- tions for recognition by the International Red Cross, but remains unrecognized because of its choice of an emblem. .
