The results were announced at 'the victory closing event at the Jewish Community Center on Tuesday eve- ning. The 1980 Campaign has collected $16,831,077 to date and projects a final figure of $17,775,000. The final 1979 figure was $16,989,163. In addition, Detroit has contributed a total of $5 million toward its $15 million goal for Project Renewal. This year's closing Campaign function was marked by a departure from previous practices, in the advance an- nouncement of the leadership for the 1981 Allied Jewish Campaign. Jewish Welfare Federation President George M. Zeltzer announced the appointment of Marvin H. Goldman and David S. Mondry as 1981 co-chairmen, to succeed David Handleman and Irving R. Seligman who led both the 1979 and 1980 Campaigns. Handleman and Seligman were presented statues by Herschel Blumberg, 1981 national chairman of the United Jewish Appeal, who lauded them for their Campaign lead- ership. The two retiring chairmen passed the plaudits on to the numerous Campaign volunteers and staff who aided their two-year tenure. The Campaign division totals were announced by Sid- ney Freedland, Harry L. Silverman, Philip S. Minkin, Ber- nard H. Stollman, Sol R. Colton, Dr. Harris W. Mainster, Kenneth J. Safran, David Levine and Shelby Tauber. Stollman announced that the Real Estate Division had surpassed last year's $3,139,705 with $3,169,628 and the division still has more than 100 contributors to contact. The contributions were secured in spite of the recent slump in the housing and building indus- try. Safran reported that the Junior Division surpassed last year's record total of $171,940 with $205,215 pledged for 1980. Jane Sherman reported that Detroiters have contrib- uted $5,000,327 for Project Renewal in addition to their regular Campaign pledges. Project Renewal seeks to re- -- habilitate 160 Israeli neighborhoods with more than 300,000 residents. Mrs. Shef.man emphasized that Detroit is committed to (Continued on Page 6) 1981 Allied Jewish Campaign Chairmen Are Announced MARVIN GOLDMAN DAVID MONDRY Marvin H. Goldman and David S. Mondry, who were announced as 1981 Allied Jewish Campaign co-chairmen Tuesday evening at the 1980- Campaign closing event, served as co-chairmen of the 1979 and 1980 Campaigns. Goldman has served as co-chairman for four years. He is a former chairman of the Industrial and Automotive Division of the Campaign and is a member of the board of Detroit Service Group. He also serves on the board of Sinai Hospital and Jewish Home for Aged. Goldman is a member and officer of Temple Beth El. Mondry, a former Campaign associate and vice chair- man, was a leader of the Mercantile Division for many years. He has served on the Federation Board of Governors and is on the boards of Sinai Hospital and the Detroit Service Group. Jewish Welfare Federation President George Zeltzer said the appointments were announced now to emphasize an early, vigorous 1980 Campaign.
