( The Best of Everything

ONE OF THE
WORLD'S most cherished
gourmet fish delicacies in
fresh Dover Sole . . . some-
thing which heretofore
could only be gotten if
somebody went to London,
England . . . Paris, Chicago
or New York.
Now Michigan joins the
very small elite list of those
with fresh Dover Sole . . . di-
rect from the waters of the
English Channel . . . as The
Meating Place on Orchard
Lake Rd. just south of Long
Lake Rd. enters the world of
epicurean delight.
Since fish is extremely
perishable, Dover Sole is
usually always frozen in the
United States . . . It is also
quite expensive to ship
fresh.
Now The Meating
Place air-lifts Dover Sole
in a matter of short hours
by British Airways or
Pan-American jets di-
rectly from London .
inspected and passed by
the Federal Food and
Drug Administration .. .
and then clearing cus-
toms at Metro Airport.
Fresh Dover Sole dinners
at The Meating Place cost
$25 for two (one jumbo split)
and $20 for a single order
.. They are usually be-
tween 16 and 20 ounces
each ... A salad mixed at
tableside and crisp, steamed
vegetables are served with
the Dover Sole.
The taste is absolutely
exotic . . . Our very fine and
fi
most efficient
waiter, Joe
Nagy, mixed the salad with
Chef Richard Zimmerman's
dressing of light mustard,
mayonnaise, olive oil and
spices . . . over romaine, bib
and Boston (or butter) let-
tuces ... It is delicious.
After a cup of tea im-
ported from England, the
thing we have long awaited
arrived . . . and our first bite

brought absolutely no dis-
appointment . . . Its very
delicate and exotic taste is
truly a gourmet dining ex-
perience.
It is like no Dover Sole we
have eaten . . . and whoever
says Dover Sole is Dover
Sole couldn't be more
wrong.
Sauteed by Chef
Richard Zimmerman,
probably one of the best
around, it was brought
out, de-boned at tab-
leside by Joe, and placed
in a light, elegant sauce
that truly is a comple-
ment to fresh Dover Sole.
Richard Harrison, owner
Bruce Cameron's general
manager at The Meating
Place (also Midtown Cafe
and Double Eagle), had
brought out a fresh, non-
frozen, uncooked Dover Sole
shipped here by jet in
styrofoam boxes packed
with ice . . . It was so fresh _
the eyes were still clear.
You just don't get a tea
bag at The Meating Place
. . . there's a choice of im-
ported from which to choose.
Chef Richard Zimmer-
man is a master at culinary
expertise . . . Here only two
years from Chicago, he has
turned The Meating Place
into a gourmand paradise
. . . even making all the pas-
tries, ice cream and sher-
bets . . . Ever have white
chocolate mousse? . . . Or
pastry made with kiwi,
strawberries and oranges in
a creamed vanilla sauce?
. . . The taste of both is inde-
scribable.
Darlene
Levinson
(married about three
weeks to Don), is man-
ager at The Meating
Place ... opened around
eight years ago on the site
of what used to be Wil-
kins Bar . . . The seating
then was 120 ... Today it
is 220 . . . Three years ago,
a balcony was also built
... Some people may
think the backs of their
chairs are broken ... But
no need to be concerned
... They turn to conform
with a person's sitting
comfort.
Remember when a person
went out to The Meating
Place for just a regular meal
. . . and it was ordinary? .. .
What Chef Richard Zim-
merman has done in his two
years there is turned it into
the difference between a
table wine and Chateau
L-afitte-Rothschild . . . it's
that great a change.
Now, with fresh Dover
Sole jet-flown from England
. . . and expertly prepared
by Chef Zimmerman .. .
The Meating Place takes its
place among the class oper-
ations of our region.
If you like Dover Sole and
have never had it fresh (few
people have) . . . enjoy a
very stimulating, mouth-
watering experience at The
Meating Place . . . It is truly
a wonderful adventure in
dining.
