BONN — German
teachers should take their
classes to trials of Nazi war
criminals whenever the
opportunity arises, accord-
ing to Werner Remmers, an
education minister in Ger-
many. Remmers' comments
appeared in an article in the
German Tribune.
This, he said, was the only
way that students could
"emerge from the ghetto of
school-induced awareness
of history and see for them-
-ayes that textbook knowl-
Ige, even though it was
pruned for convenience, had
something to do with the
real world."
Remmers was addressing
a meeting of the Christian-
Jewish Cooperation Asso-
ciation.

Knesset Speaker
Yitzhak Berman

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
Yitzhak Berman of the
Likud Liberation faction
was recently elected
speaker of the Knesset, re-
placing Yitzhak Shamir,
who resigned to become
Foreign Minister.
Berman, 66, arrived here
from Russia when he was
seven yers old. He went to
high school in Jerusalem
and gradUated in law from
London University. On the
eve of the Second World
War, he joined the Ir-
gun Zvai Leumi under-
ground and later enlisted in
the British Army.
After demobilization he
worked for a short time as a
lawyer, then joined the Is-
raeli Army. He was dis-
charged in 1951 with the
rank of major. He became
active in the Liberal Party
in 1968 and first entered the
Knesset in May 1977, to be-
come chairman of the House
Committee.

Nuclear Power-
Station Proposed

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —
Israel will soon propose
joint construction of a
nuclear-fueled power sta-
tion with Egypt, a reliable
source said here.
The project would be built
at Bardawil in the north-
western Sinai peninsula, to
supply electricity to both
countries. The idea will be
proposed to Egypt by the Is-
raeli Energy_ Ministry,
which hopes the project will
he aided by the United
ates, the source said.
