"Ha-Siddur Ha-Shalem," edited by Dr. Philip Birnbaum, has been pro- duced in a 22-page volume including weekday prayers plus material for Rosh Hodesh, Hanuka and Purim. This is the most widely used prayerbook among Orthodox Jews in the United States. English and Hebrew texts are in exactly parallel for- mat. The book, which measures 10 1/2" x 14" is spiral-bound to facilitate folding back for convenient use. Two Wayne State Uni- versity professors have been named the recipients of the 18th annual Probus Club awards for academic achievement. They are: Dr. Gisela Labouvie-Vief, associate professor of psychology; and Dr. Lawrence J. Marnett, assistant professor of chemistry. The awards, granted an- nually to WSU faculty in the fields of humanities- social sciences and natural sciences, include $1,000 without restrictions, the Probus Club plaques. Pre- sentation of the awards will be made at a 6:30 p.m. reception-dinner Thursday at the Furniture Club of De- troit. Dr. Labouvie-Vief, the winner in the humanities and social sciences cate- gory, is a native of West Germany and pursued her undergraduate work at the University of Saar- land in that country. The corn- poser's "Concerto for Clarinet and String Or- chestra" has been chosen by director James Toback for his new film, "Love and Inc. Money." Copland, 79, has com- posed scores for many films, including "Of Mice and Men" and "Something Wild." The concerto, origi- nally recorded by Benny Goodman, will feature John Moses as the clarinetist. MARNETT During her academic career, Dr. Labouvie-Vief has conducted extensive re- search into the areas of aging and the intellectual functioning of the elderly, along with combatting the stereotypes associated with the aging process. In addition to her profes- sorship in psychology, Dr. Labouvie-Vief is a research faculty associate at the WSU Institute of Gerontol- ogy. She joined the WSU Psychology faculty in 1976. Dr. Marnett, who won the award for his work in the natural sciences, joined the WSU faculty in 1975. He earned his BS degree, cum laude, from Rockhurst College, Kan- sas City, Mo., in 1969, and his PhD degree from Duke University. His primary area of research has dealt with the rela- tionship between dietary fat and chemically- induced cancer. The Probus Club contrib- utes gifts and grants to in- dividual Detroit hospitals and charities. Preliminary investiga- tions have been opened against Ursula Muller, who held the party, and others who were present for pos- sessing and spreading Nazi propaganda.
