MISCHA KOTTLER

Kottler was born in Kiev
of a musical family. He
.began studying the violin at
age 4 and changed to piano
at age 5. At 7 he entered the
Imperial Conservatory of
Kiev and at 9 he made a
concert tour of the major
cities of the Ukraine. He
continued his studies hr
Paris with Alfred Cortot
and in Vienna under Emil
von Sauer.
He has performed in con-
cert in the U.S. and abroad
and has appeared with the
Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra more than 30 times.
Kottler is the former
musical director of WWJ
and is chairman of the
piano division at Wayne
State University.

Tickton, a professor of
music at WSU, as been on
the university faculty for 42
years. He has been the
music director and organist
at Temple Beth El for 46
years and a lecturer for the
DSO for five years.
He has composed liturgi-
cal music which has been
performed in more than 400
temples in the U.S.,
Canada, Europe and Israel
and is the author of many
articles published in maga-
zines and newspapers. He is
an organ recitalist, having
given 29 public organ reci-
tals during the past 27
years.
For 10 years he taught
the WSU radio course "In-
troduction to Music Litera-
ture" on station WDET-FM.
Prof. Tickton won an adult
education prize for creativ-
ity in the arts in 1960 and
1963 and the President's
Award for Excellence in
Teaching in 1977.
Dr. Hochberg is the
former assistant con-
certmaster of the DSO.
