Dr. Marvin Fox will de-
liver the first in a series of
three Mina and Theodore
Bargman Memorial Lec-
tures at the 24th annual
Midrasha Institute. The lec-
ture, "Between Man and
God"- will be presented at
8:15 p.m. Wednesday in the
LaMed Auditorium of the
United Hebrew Schools
building.
Dr. Fox is director of the
Lown School of Near East-
ern and Judaic Studies,
chairman of the department
of Near Eastern and Judaic
studieS and Philip W. Lown
Professor of Jewish Philos-
ophy at Brandeis Univer-
sity.
He is immediate past
president of the Association
for Jewish Studies, the pro-
fessiotial organization of
university teachers in the
field of Jewish studies, and
a member of the Council of
the World Union of Jewish
Studies.
Before joining the
Brandeis University fa-
culty, Prof. Fox taught at
the Ohio State Univer-
sity. He was professor of
philosophy there for may

the first Yassenoff Pro-
fessor of Philosophy and
Jewish Studies.
He earned BA and MA
degrees at Northwestern
University and a PhD de-
gree at the University of
Chicago. In the academic
year 1970-1971, Prof. Fox
served as visiting professor
of philosophy at the Hebrew
University of Jerusalem
and at Bar-Ilan University
in Ramat-Gan. He is a foun-
der and member of the
executive committee of the
Institute for Judaism and
Contemporary Thought in
Israel.
Dr. Fox is a member of the
academic board of the Mel-
ton Research Center of the
Jewish Theological Semi-
nary and a member of the
board of directors of the Li-
brary of Living
Philosophers. He holds full
membership in the Ameri-
can Philosophical Associa-
tion, the Medieval Academy
of America, the Metaphysi-
cal Society of America, the
American Academy for
Jewish Research, and the
American Association of
University Professors. Dr.
Fox also serves as a member
of the executive committee
of the Bnai Brith Hillel
Commission.
Prof. Fox is a consulting
editor of the "Journal of the
History of Philosophy," and
he also is a member of the
editorial boards of the "AJS
Review," "Tradition" and
"Judaism." He is the author
of more than 100 articles,
reviews and monographs
that have appeared in
scholarly journals, as well
as in general publications.
Prof. Fox was recently
awarded a senior faculty
fellowship by the Na-
tional Endowment for the
Humanities in order to
complete the first volume
of this study in the aca-
demic year 1980-1981.
