Hattie Schwartz - Of Course! :352-7387 Aaron Gershenson Dies, Shopping Center Developer Shopping center de- veloper Aaron Gershenson, who with his brothers built the Pontchartrain Hotel, died April 6 at age 72. Born in New York, Mr. Gershenson was the de- veloper and manager of sev- eral shopping centers, in- cluding: Tel-12 Mall, Pon- tiac Mall, South and North Flint Plazas and the South- gate Shopping Center. He was one of the largest independent developers for the S.S. Kresge Co., and built and maintained the Kmart Stores throughout the East. He was a pioneer in the development of the enclosed shopping center. At the time of his death, he was involved in the development of a resi- dential project in Bloom- field Hills. With his father and brothers, Mr. Gershenson founded Ned's Auto Supply in 1921. The chain grew to 10 stores and was sold in 1953 to Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. Mr. Gershenson was graduated in 1938 from the Wayne (State) University School of Law. Ausubel, who gained wide acclaim as a photo- grapher and puppeteer, died April 3 at age 67. Mrs. Ausubel had won several prizes for her photo- graphs of children and na- ture. She was a pioneer puppeteer. She also was the secretary of the Lewis W. Hine Collection, made up of classic photographs of im- migrant workers in New York City early in the cen- tury. Her husband is Nathan, eminent an- thologist and historian with whom she co-edited "A Treasury of Jewish Poetry," an anthology of 800 poems by 250 Jewish authors that was issued by Crown Publishers in 1957. He performed this task despite the indifference and frequent obstruction of Dutch officials abroad who wanted to avoid "illegal" ac- tivities and took the view that Jews incurred no greater risks than others in Nazi-occupied lands. Nevertheless, he engaged the sympathy and friend- ship of the then Queen Wilhelmina who was indig- nant over the callous treat- ment of Jewish refugees by Dutch Consular officials in France and elsewhere. -Sub- sequently he received the..
