The threesome plays ev- erything from easy listen- ing to contemporary disco music, punctuating instru- mentals with solid vocals . . . Their main forte is on the standards, though, like "Just In Time" among so may others. Although this is the trio's first appearance on the 25th floor of the Hotel Pontchart- rain, the Alex Kallao Trio is not new to aficionados of the local music scene, due to the group's frequent engagements at the London Chop House and most re- cently at Excalibur on Northwestern in South- field. Blind pianist Alex Kal- lao has progressed over the years from child pro- tege to an accomplished adult performer who merits the admiration of his fellow musicians ... While still in his teens he launched his career play- ing at such noteworthy jazz spots as Basin Street East, Hickory House and the Embers in New York City He recently completed an engagement with his trio at Disney World in Florida. Its new hours are Sunday through Thursday 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. . . and all night as usual on Friday and Satur- day . . .
