til May 31.
The threesome plays ev-
erything from easy listen-
ing to contemporary disco
music, punctuating instru-
mentals with solid vocals
. . . Their main forte is on
the standards, though, like
"Just In Time" among so
may others.
Although this is the trio's
first appearance on the 25th
floor of the Hotel Pontchart-
rain, the Alex Kallao Trio is
not new to aficionados of the
local music scene, due to the
group's frequent
engagements at the London
Chop House and most re-
cently at Excalibur on
Northwestern in South-
field.
Blind pianist Alex Kal-
lao has progressed over
the years from child pro-
tege to an accomplished
adult performer who
merits the admiration of
his fellow musicians ...
While still in his teens he
launched his career play-
ing at such noteworthy
jazz spots as Basin Street
East, Hickory House and
the Embers in New York
City
He recently completed an
engagement with his trio at
Disney World in Florida.
Al Gabor on bass buitar
and Ed Marz on drums
round out the musical group
. . . Al's vocalizing is also a
very big favorite.
TRY THE GUS SAND-
WICH in Pita bread at An-
toine's on Woodward and
101/2 Mile, next to Mickey
Shorr's.
Speaking of Mickey, he's
back in town . . . weighing
310 pounds . . . and going
back to the organization
Mickey started 10 years ago
. . . T.O.P.S. (Take Off
Pounds Sensibly) . . . that
meets every Wednesday on
the corner of Nine Mile and
Livernois . . . He is a big guy
but he loves to eat too much
. . . So does Sandy Zack, but
look how trim Sandy is now
by the push-away will-
power method.
TO MY KNOWLEDGE,
the Clock Restaurant on
Southfield and 10 Mile Rd.
has become the first in its
chain to give a complete
dinner menu, choice of six
entrees . . . including soup,
salad, potatoes and vegeta-
ble selections and
homemade bread . . . $2.99,
4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Clock on Southfield
and 10 Mile has an al-
together new and much
more varied menu . . . Its
new hours are Sunday
through Thursday 6 a.m. to
11 p.m. . . and all night as
usual on Friday and Satur-
day . . . Carol Benzi still
owns this Clock . . . man-
aged by Chuck Williams .. .
quite a big difference from
the other run-of-the-
mill operations . . . Next
best thing that could hap-
pen would be a name
change.
HARRY REASONER,
award-winning TV jour-
nalist, will be the keynote
speaker at the 1980 Michi-
gan and Great Lakes Food
Service Show which runs
April 20-22 at Cobo Arena
. . . sponsored by the Michi-
gan Restaurant Association
in conjunction with 10 other
food service organizations.
More than 200 exhibitors
are expected at the show,
which caters to members of
the food service business in-
cluding restaurants, pri-
vate clubs, institutions and
schools.
Reasoner, whose 30-year
career includes work on "60
Minutes," "CBS Reports"
and 14 years as anchorman
for "ABC Evening News,"
will address an 8:30 a.m.
breakfast session April 22.
A ONE NIGHT transi-
tion, 7 to 12 midnight April
27 at Oscar's on Northwest-
ern Hwy., will be like night
and day . . . from disco to
country-western . . . The
country fun expected at Os-
car's will have Larry Lee
Adkins and The Hanging
Tree, named top country-
western band in Detroit .. .
There'll even be country-
western dance instructors
and exhibitions by Arthur
Murray dancers . . . plus
prizes for best country-
western attire . . . Advance
tickets are being urged .. .
or they may be gotten at the
door . . . if available.
AFTER A FOUR-
YEAR absence . . . much
too long . . . the lavish, over
100-item brunch for $5.95
returns April 13 to Topin-
ka's Country House on
Telegraph and W. Seven
Mile Rd. . . . 10 a.m. to 2
p.m.
The over 100-item Sun-
day Buffet also returns to
Topinka's Country House
on April 13 . . . 2 p.m. to 8:30
p.m.
POINT AFTER DELI
is still doing a big lunch
business . . . with lines out -
the door at the Racquetime
Bldg. on 12 Mile east of
Northwestern.
PEOPLE ASK WHERE
the name Rialto comes from
for Rialto Cafe on Wood-
ward and Nine Mile Rd. . . .
It is a bridge in Venice with
boutique stores for bridge
pedestrians.
Rialto, owned by brothers
Charlie and Frank Pappas,
will soon celebrate its 55th
