Seniors Tutor UHS Students

Senior citizens are taking
an active role in the teach-
ing of Hebrew and Jewish
subjects to students at the
United Hebrew Schools.
They are acting as tutors
to the students, especially to
those who need special at-
tention in reading Hebrew
or learning the Siddur.
Rose Ffeifer, a former
teacher in the UHS, who
was trained in Europe

and at the Midrasha; and
Henry Auslander, who
holds a bachelor's degree
in chemical engineering
and a master's degree
and associate degree in
Hebrew literature from
the Midrasha, are among
the tutors.
Others who are interested
in tutoring UHS students,
should call the school office,
354-1050.

Farm Maid Kosher Products
Limited, Warning Says

The Metropolitan Kas-
hruth Council of Michigan,
locally under the supervi-
sion of Rabbi Jack
Goldman, has issued a
warning concerning Farm
Maid products. Not all
products bearing the Farm
Maid label are kosher-
certified.
Kosher-certified Farm
Maid products include: Cot-
tage cheese; sour cream;
liquid milk products, in-
cluding the following:
homogenized milk, skim
milk, low-fat milk, choco-
late milk, butter milk and
half 'n half; orange juice and
grapefruit juice.Most of
these products, under
different formulation, are
also kosher for Passover.
Farm Maid products
which are not kosher are
yogurt and chip dips.
A number of products
distributed by Farm
Maid, but manufactured
for them by other com-
panies in and outside of
the state of Michigan,
should be presumed
non-kosher. Specifically
Farm Maid hard cheeses,

L.A. Project
to Aid Elderly

LOS ANGELES (JTA) —
A three-year demonstration
project to provide coordi-
nated health and social
services for eligible seniors
in the Beverly-Fairfax area
of Los Angeles, funded by a
grant from the Department
of Health, Education and
Welfare, will be started in
April by the Freda Mohr
Multiservice Center of the
Los Angeles Jewish Family
Service. ,
Some 300 elderly persons
will be chosen, based on
such factors as age — over
75 or 65-75 under certain
conditions — and medical
eligibility. The program
will fund such services as
transportation, in-home
care, day care center serv-
ices, protective services and
nutritional programs.

African Trip
Denied by Israel

JERUSALEM (JTA) —
The Israel Defense Ministry
has denied reports that De-
fense Minister Ezer Weiz-
man made a three-day
secret visit to South Africa
March 15-17 to discuss "se-
curity matters."
The reports, based on one
which first appeared in
Maariv, claimed that
Weizman was sent to South
Africa by Premier
Menahem Begin and only a
few Cabinet ministers knew
about it.
Begin and Weizman re-
portedly held a lengthy
meeting March 18 but no
details were given.
