prayers for the American
hostages in Iran.
"We call on all rabbis and
synagogues to arrange spe-
cial prayers to be recited at
the festival services and
even at the family Seder for
release of the hostages and
their return to their
families and their country,"
Rosensweig said.
"During this season of
freedom we recall, with pro-
found anguish, those of our
fellow Americans who are
still held hostage in the U.S.
Embassy in Iran. We are re-
pelled by tyranny and per-
secution wherever they
occur and we are deeply dis-
tressed that Americans are
currently their victims in
Teheran.
"We protest this uncons-
cionable act of oppression
both as Americans and
Jews. When we witness the
sorry spectacle of our coun-
trymen with their hands
tied and their eyes
blindfolded, robbed of
human dignity and virtu-
ally enslaved, the blessings
of freedom are brought
home to us dramatically
and with force."
