20-foot stage in the main
dining room . . . no telling
how many people she'll
draw this fall for "Annie Get
Your Gun" . . . It's for cer-
tain she cannot do it on the
small banquet room stage.
She's the absolute best for
the starring role in "Annie
Get Your Gun" . . . no talent
is considered better . . . and
it could be the perfect ve-
hicle to get the Sims'
Paradiso back in proper
stride.
NEWEST DRINK in
town is "The Brass Lady,"
created here recently in a
contest won by young Linda
Skender of Mount Clemens,
a bartender at the Grosse
Pointe Yacht Club.
Ten finalists competed in
the bar at the Top of the
Pontch to create a cocktail
in honor of the Brass Lady
. . . a lifesize statue in the
lobby at the Pontch .. .
Linda won $100 and dinner
for two at the Chuck Muer
restaurant on the 25th floor
of Hotel Pontchartrain.
Her creation blends two
ounces of Mount Gay rum,
one ounce of Tia Maria, four
ounces of orange juice and
four ounces of pineapple
juice in a 16-ounce brandy
snifter, topped with a good
dash of nutmeg.
JIM TAYLOR, head of
the Hot Jazz Society, says
there definitely will be a
Detroit-Montreux Jazz
Festival in Downtown De-
troit . . . He says festivities
will start with a Bob-Lo
cruise and two bands alter-
nating on Thursday eve-
ning . . . Then on Friday,
Saturday, Sunday and pos-
sibly Labor Day Monday,
says Jim, from 12 noon til
midnight daily . . . Dates
scheduled are Aug. 28-Sept.
1 . . .
Jim has been appointed to
the Detroit-Montreux Jazz
Festival committee . . . with
plans to feature all styles of
jazz and showcase local
bands alongside nationally
known bands and names.
BUDDY'S PIZZA in the
northwest area is very close
to becoming a reality.
The Buddy's spot on Con-
ant and Six Mile has become
somewhat of a sports head-
quarters with athletes mak-
ing it their rendezvous .. .
and Billy Jacobs, super
athlete of years ago, owner
with wife Shirley and son
Bob, sponsoring baseball
teams galore with the sea-
son soon coming up .. .
The half-baked pizzas at
Buddy's are great for par-
ties and freezers . . . Eating
there is always a welcomed
experience . . . The home-
made soups and antipasto
salad are especially good .. .
plus of course, those meat
balls.
TENTATIVE PLANS
are for a delicatessen to be
opened on the site of the
former Bagel Nosh, 10 Mile
Rd. east of Evergreen .. .
Owners will be same ones as
the Bagel Nosh which has
opened a successful opera-
tion in the Renaissance
Center, downtown Detroit.
Among the names being
considered is The Nosh .. .
It'll still make its own very
fine bagels .. have a full-
fledged carry-out . .. and
perhaps some sit-down
waitress service.
ARLENE GREER or
"Special People" on Green-
field (clothes for folks over
the normal size) loves
ethnic foods . . . and is a
downtown Greektown vis-
itor about three times a
week . . . plus Esther
Michael's excellent Sheik
Restaurant . . . Friends
even call Arlene now when
planning a party . . . Her
knowledge of ethnic foods is
wide.
INVARIABLY WHEN
writing about a new place
. . . with a lot of names used
. . . it is only natural to omit
and *misspell.
Last week's item about
the new Green Ten Restau-
rant on Greenfield and 10
Mile, formerly Dubbs,
didn't fare too badly in these
categories, though.
We left out the name of
Chris Zangoulas, wife of
Andy, owner with brother
Nick . . . Also one of the
other cooks, Jimmy
Fefopoulous.
Another former Dubbs
waitress who left when
things started going
downhill but has re-
turned, is efficient Mary
Scalzi, working 11 a.m. to
