Danny Raskin's The Best of Everything THE MOMENT AFTER new Paradiso own- ers Ann and Bill Sims had seen the Nancy Gurwin Production of "Guys 'n Dolls," they somehow must have felt they had bought a winner ... This is the kind of spirit cy Nan and her cast exudes in all their endeavors, and the feeling magnifies itself onto all who surround her. "Guys 'n Dolls," the Broadway musical based on a Damon Runyon story, is the ninth Nancy Gurwin Production . . . and in the usual Nancy Gurwin pat- tern, it is lively and fast moving. Critics and reviewers from coast to coast have written' thousands upoii' thousands of words in ac- colade of the wonderful "Guys 'n Dolls" . . . It is hardly conceivable though that any dinner-theater in the country can match such a magnificent talent as Nancy Gurwin. From the moment the three-piece combo of leader Barbara . Anne . Gowans, piano; Felice Bernadara, drums and percussion, and Chris Murrell, bass, give out with their very pleasant and most entertaining jazz warmup, the huge crowd could feel that something big was going . and The Staff Of 19469 W. 10 MILE RD. (1 Block E. of Evergreen) 352-7466 Sincerely With Their Many Friends and Customers A Very Happy Passover We thank you for your gracious patronage . . . and most sincerely. wish the very best in health, joy and prosperity to all to take place ... and big- ger than big it was. The Nancy Gurwin Prod- uction of "Guys 'n Dolls" at Paradiso Cafe was done as it has no doubt very seldom been played in dinner theaters anywhere. The cast was magnifi- cent, with perhaps a couple of small parts not played ac- cording to the way Damon Runyon would have written them . . . What is most amazing is that the produc- tion of "Guys 'n Dolls" could be done on such a small stage .. . What a boon it will be • with Ann and Bill building a 20-foot stage in the main dining room for Nancy's next scheduled great prod- uction for fall of 1980, "An- nie Get Your Gun" . . . ("There's No Business Like Show Business," "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Bet- ter," "They Say 'That Fal- ling In Love Is Wonderful," "Doing What Comes Natur- ally," "The Girl That I Marry," etc., etc., etc. . . . all written by Irving Berlin.) Nancy Gurwin, easily Detroit's premier female dinner-theater talent, is one of whom there is al- ways so much that can be said ... However, no other words except "great" can be used for her wonderful perform- ances. On the heels of her mag- nificent "Funny Girl" suc- cess, "Guys 'n Dolls" offers plenty of laughs, lots of singing and much dancing. Usually, the shows are all Nancy Gurwin . . . This time, she is assisted by a fine cast of outstanding stars who make up a most entertaining rendition of "Guys 'n Dolls" . . . like Leah Betts playing Sarah Brown, Edgar A. Guest III as Nathan Detroit, Ralph Reed as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Tom Steward as Sky Masterson, etc. Nancy as Miss Adelaide sings: "A Bushel and a Peck," "Adelaide's Lament" (a person can develop a cold), "Take Back Your Mink," "Sue Me" and "Marry The Man Today." "Guys 'n Dolls" has al- ways been a credit to its many casts . . . Those in it are all given good parts to display their acting or singing or dancing ta- lents ... It is Damon Ru- nyon at his best ... plus music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerdling and Abe Burrows. When the show ended and the deserved applause fi- nally died down, the entire cast of "Guys 'n Dolls" sang "Happy Birthday" from the stage to Sid Schwartz in the audience ... celebrating his y. 70th birthda The Nancy Gurwin Prod- • uction of "Guys 'n Dolls at Paradiso Cafe runs through April. If Ann and Bill Sims put their act together with Nancy . . . and build her a (Continued on Page 39) •••••••••••••••• :GREEN•iTEN Family Restaurant (FORMERLY DUBBS Country Kitchen) ♦ SERVING • BREAKFAST • LUNCH • DINNER AS ALWAYS, WE WILL SERVE FRIED MATZO DURING PASSOVER OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK * MON.—SAT. s a.m. to 9 p.m. SUN. 7:38 a.m. to 9 p.m. •••••••••••••••• All Our ...7riench and Afroni fora )oyotti ct33over Now Open Saturdays JIMS GARAGE 300 W.
