TEL AVIV — A trial will
open in the near future in
Germany for Ernst Allers,
Constantin Canaris and
Kurt Asche. They are ac-
cused of assisting in the kil-
ling of 20,000 Jews from
Belgium and southern
France during the Nazi oc-
cupation of Belgium. They
sent these Jews to death
camps.
Many Belgian Christians
saved thousands of Jews
and 4,000 Jewish children
from death. They provided
them with forged Christian
documents, turned them
into peasants and helped
them to flee the Nazi mur-
derers. The Jewish children
were hidden in monasteries
and other places. The Bel-
gian Jews have not forgot-
ten these courageous Bel-

gians who risked their lives
to save them.
A prominent member of
the Belgian committee to
commemorate the killed
Belgian Jews, Dov Lieber-
man, recently visited Israel.
He said the committee has
erected a big memorial
monument in the center of
Brussels dedicated to the
Jewish partisans who
fought the Nazis in Bel-
gium. On six black
gravestones the names of
240 Jewish resistance
fighters are engraved.
There are also the dates on
which the Gestapo deported
the fighters to the death
camps.
A big black stone bears
the inscription: "Honor
to the Belgian Jews, who
were killed in resisting
the Nazi occupants." This
inscription is in four lan-
guages, French, Flemish,
Hebrew and Yiddish.
There is also a big Star of
David with the date
1940-1945.
Lieberman praised the -
Brussels municipality for
dedicating the square on
which the memorial was es-
tablished.
Now the committee is
planning a ceremony to be-
stow decorations on
thousands of Belgians who
helped during the Nazi oc-
cupation to save Jews. The
Belgian queen, members of
the Cabinet and leaders of
Jewish and Christian in-
stitutions will participate.
The committee wages a
permanent campaign,
mainly among Belgian
youth, to inform the people
about the Holocaust. It dis-
tributes material among
pupils in Belgian schools
and monasteries and other
Christian institutions. In
this material the heroism of
the Belgian citizens is de-
scribed.
A special booklet con-
tains details about the
annihilation of the Bel-
gian Jews. The Belgian
Education and Culture
Ministry recommended
the use of this booklet for
the schools. Another
booklet containing the
names of the martyred
Belgian Jews was dis-
tributed among the
Jewish youth.
Dov Lieberman proposed
at the International World
Congress of former Concen-
tration Camp Prisoners,
which took place in Israel on
the 35th anniversary of the
liberation of Auschwitz, to
name streets in various
countries after Jewish re-
sistance fighters in order to
prove that the Jews fought
together with other people
against the Nazi murderers
and did not go --, like sheep
— into the crematoriums.

Bad words are as influen-
tial as the plague and the
pestilence. They have
wrought more evil than
battle, murder, and sudden
death. They creep through
the ear into the heart, call
up all its bad passions, and
tempt it to break God's
commandments.

Lieberman went to Bel-
gium from Poland in 1927.
During World War II he was
active in the Belgian resis-
tance movement. He suc-
ceeded in reaching Paris
with forged documents as a
"field worker." In Paris he
joined the underground.
Gestapo agents caught him
and he was sent to a labor
camp, but managed to es-
cape and to join the parti-
sans once more.
Lieberman is involved
with spreading Jewish cul-
ture in Belgium. There is a
revival in that country of
the Yiddish language.
Many performances in Yid-
dish take place and are
attended even by
youngsters. Yiddish artists
and singers come from other
countries to Belgium and
have great success.
In Brussels there is a
"Jewish voluntary commu-
nity center" headed by a
former Polish Jew, David
Soskin. He has free access to
government circles. He or-

ganized in Brussels the two
world congresses for the
Russian Jews, demanding
from the Soviet authorities
to allow Russian Jews to
emigrate to Israel.
