veteran Labor Party jour-
nalist, Michael Assaf,
writing in Davar, says the
Labor Party should let
Prime Minister Menahem
Begin and his Likud gov-
ernment finish its term and
not force new elections.
Despite recent polls show-
ing that the Labor Align-
ment could easily regain
control of the government if
new elections were held to-
day, Assaf says Begin has
been more compromising on
foreign affairs while in
power than he was as leader
of the opposition

Mr. and Mrs. Louis (Ida)
Bregman of Oak Park cele-
brated their 60th wedding
anniversary March 1 at a
dinner given by their chil-
dren, Dr. and Mrs. Harry
Markowitz and Mr. and
Mrs. Bernard Mintz at
Cong. Beth Achim.
A retired tailor, Bregman
married the former Ida 01-
shansky in a ceremony at
Cong. Agudat Achim, Hast-
ings and Ferry Streets, in
Detroit, on Feb. 29, 1920.
Both the Bregmans were
born in the village of Lochva
in Russia and were child-
hood friends.
Mrs. Bregman and her
family emigrated to Detroit
in 1912 while Bregman
came to New York in 1914
They met again in 1919
while Mrs. Bregman was
visiting New York and were
married the following year
and settled in Detroit.
The Bregmans have
seven grandchildren.
Friends and relatives
from throughout the
United States and
Canada were on hand to
help the couple celebrate.
Grandsons Larry Mar-
kowitz and Brian Mintz
offered toasts in honor of
their grandparents. Or-
chestra leader Sam Bar-
nett entertained with
songs from 1920 and Yid-
dish and Hebrew favo-
rites.
Mr. Bregman was long
active in Bnai Brith in De-
troit and was a president of
the Ideal Free Loan Asso-
