David Markey

David C. Markey, retired
owner and operator of David
C. Markey Insurance
\Agency, died March 16 at
age 72.
Born in New York, Mr.
Markey lived many years in
Detroit, prior to moving to
Delray Beach, Fla., 10 years
ago. He founded his com-
pany in 1929 and retired in
1970. He was the secretary
of the Furniture Club for
many years.
He leaves his wife, Con-
stance; a daughter, Mrs.
William (Lorraine) Lester
of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a
brother, Marc of Boca Ra-
ton, Fla.; a sister, Mrs.
Frederick (Pauline) Lee of
Phoenix, Ariz.; and two
grandsons. Interment De-
troit.

Lillian Monash

Lillian Monash, the first
•resident of the Music
Study Club of Metropolitan
Petroit, died March 16 at
ge 84.
A native Detroiter, Mrs.
Monash was a teacher in the
etroit Public Schools,
worked-with the National
Youth Administration and
was in charge of youth
placement for the Michigan
Employment Security
Commission. She retired in
1964.
She leaves two daughters,
rs. Donald (Sharon) Kel-
er and Mrs. Earl (Caryl)
,oberts of Pompano Beach,
Fla.; one sister, six

great-grandchildren.

Who passed away
March 22, 1978. Sadly
missed and always re-
membered.

Schools a devotion that gave
him leadership in educa-
tional ranks. He was the
teacher of many hundreds
— exceeding 2,000 — and
his guidance in adult educa-
tion supplemented the
training of the children.
Always a student as
well as a teacher he pur-
sued many objectives, in-
cluding the study of law,
receiving his law degree
from the University of
Detroit. He held a BA de-
gree in business adminis-
tration from Wayne State
University.
Born in Pinsk, Russia,
Mr. Plafkin lived 60 years
in Detroit. He was an or-
ganizer of the union of He-
brew teachers in Detroit
and was its first secretary
and treasurer.
He was active in the
Kvutza Ivrit and was , its
publicity chairman.
He also helped build up
the special section of Yid-
dish books in Oak Park Li-
brary.
Mr. Plafkin is survived by
a daughter, Mrs. E. Ronald
(Esther) Milan; a sister,
Mrs. Simon (Dora) Plafkin;
and four grandchildren.

Dr. Joseph A. Bakst, a re-
tired Detroit physician, died
March 15 at age 93.
Born in Russia, Dr. Bakst
was graduated in 1911 from
the Baltimore Medical Col-
lege. He interned at Grace
Hospital in Detroit in 1912.
He was honored by the state
of Michigan "for more than
50 years of excellence."
Dr. Bakst was a member
of the American and Michi-
gan Medical Associations,
Bnai Brith, the Oddfellows,
Zionist Organization of
America and Adat Shalom
Synagogue.
