Working Mothers
Studied By TAU

TEL AVIV — Some 59.8
percent of women suffer ex-
treme fatigue during the
first year after childbirth,
regardless of whether they
remain at home or work
outside the home, according
to a report by a team of Tel
Aviv University resear-
chers.
The research team of
Prof. Rebecca Bergman, Dr.
Rebecca Adams, Dr. Nelo
Shavit, studied the factors
which influence the return
of women to the work force
after childbirth, examining
the problems encountered
by working mothers and the
extent to which the help and
services available meet
their needs.
The report, undertaken in
cooperation with the Minis-
try of Labor and Welfare
and with the National In-
surance Institute which
today pays new working
mothers 75 percent of their
salary for 12 weeks,
spanned five major
categories of working
women: academics, includ-
ing doctors, lawyers, scien-
tists, and other profession-
als; nurses; teachers; cleri-
cal services; and blue collar
laborers.

LONDON (ZINS) — The
London Observor reports
that West German busi-
nessmen are trying to com-
plete four arms deals with
Arab countries:
Magirus-Deutz Co. is
trying to sell 42,000 mili-
tary vehicles to Syria; Libya
wants to purchase equip-
ment used in making atom
bombs; Leopard tanks are
being offered to Saudi
Arabia; and Magirus-Deutz
wants to sell 2,000 vehicles
to Iraq.
The Observor said
Magirus-Deutz participated
in the Yom Kippur War in
1973 by discovering a
method to break down Is-
rael's sand barricades along
the Suez Canal. Within six
weeks the firm produced the
necessary water-cannon,
delivered them to Egypt a
week before the war, and
trained the Egyptians in
their use.

Five Terrorists
Jailed in Israel

HAIFA (JTA) — A mili-
tary court imposed life sen-
tences on five terrorists, in-
cluding two Palestinians
from Kalkilya, who were
convicted of murdering an
Israeli soldier they picked
up as a hitchhiker.
The others, two Syrians
and a Pakistani, were cap-
tured seven months ago
when they landed in Israel
in a rubber boat on a ter-
rorist mission.
The court found that their
orders were to seize hos-
tages for the release of im-
prisoned members of the
Popular Front for the Lib-
eration of Palestine and if
that was not possible, to kill
anyone they met.
