JWF Women Spring Forum Is Scheduled for March 26
Two women who took part
in resistance movements
during the 1940s will be the
featured speakers at the
annual Spring Forum of the
Jewish Welfare Federation
Women's Division, March
26, at the Jewish Commu-
nity Center.
Titled "We Fought Back,"
the forum, an educational
meeting aimed particularly
at the interests of younger
women, will begin at 9:15
a.m. and end at 2:15 p.m.
Morning speaker will be
Anita Hearshen, a member
of the Hagana's Intelligence
Corps during Israel's War of
Independence. She worked
closely with Teddy Kollek,
now mayor of Jerusalem,
and she worked behind the
scenes in Morocco, South
America and the U.S. to
help the fledgling Jewish
state get supplies it needed
for defense.
Vladka Meed will ad-
dress the gathering after
lunch. Born Feigele Pel-
tel, she was 17 when the
Nazis conquered Poland.
She joined the under-
ground and, with the help
of forged identity papers,
became "Vladka" to
work on the "Aryan side"
of the Warsaw Ghetto.
During the Warsaw
Ghetto Uprising, she
smuggled weapons and
helped Jews escape from
the ghetto and find shel-
ter.
Marcy Feldman is chair-
man, and Dena Golden,
associate chairman and
program chairman, of the
Spring Forum Committee.
Joyce Sherman is secretary,
and Barbara Altwerger and
Janice Fried, decorations
co-chairman.
