Yaminah Wines
New from Kedem

NEW YORK — Seven
new wines under the new
Yaminah label are Kedem's
newest contribution to the
kosher wine market.
The wines are made from
20 different types of grapes
grown in the Rothschild
Vineyards of Binyaminah
and have been under de-
velopment for the past few
years.
Two of the new Yaminah
wines, Chateau Sharon (a
semi-dry white wine) and
Grenache Rose, won awards
at major international wine
tastings.
The seven wines are:
Yaminah Hock, dry white;
Adorn. Berie, dry red;
Chateau Sharon, white
semi-dry; Yaminah Light
Golden, sweet tokay-like;
Grenache Rose; Yaminah
Red Natural, sweet red;

Jewish Retarded Benefit from Citizen
Advocacy Project Sponsored by JARC

Advocates for retarded
and handicapped are
emerging as envoys of
mercy in a program intro-
duced and encouraged by
the Jewish Association for
Retarded Citizens.
Exemplary is at least one
instance already on record.
Accountant Marty
Shenkman learned of the
Citizen Advocacy program
from a recent news item. He
wanted to become involved
in a volunteer activity that
did not take a great deal of
time and whose scheduling
is flexible.
He became involved
with the Citizen Advo-
cacy program through
the JARC and was

teamed up with a men-
tally retarded man, Mar-
tin Steinet.
Shenkman and Steiner
participate in many activi-
ties that Steiner would not
otherwise be able to enjoy.
The two meet for dinner, see
a movie and attend
synagogue services.
Shenkman also helps
Steiner develop basic skills:
using the telephone, buying
clothes and cooking. Often
they will go to Shenkman's
apartment for a casual
lunch.
Many of the activities are
turned into learning activi-
ties. For example, lunch
will become a session on

ning. The two also attend
monthly activities planned
by the Citizen Advocacy
staff.
There are more than
2,200 Jewish retarded in
the Detroit area who can
benefit from the one-to-one
friendship program. In-

Israel Envoy
Hostage in Bogota

NEW YORK (JTA) —
The Israeli Ambassador to
Colombia is reportedly one
of the 12 ambassadors
among 32 hostages being
held by terrorists in the
Bogota embassy.
According to reports, Is-
rael sent a representative to
Bogota to assist in negotia-
toins, but he was not
allowed into Colombia.
The government there
said it is conducting all the
negotiations with the ter-
rorists known as the M-19
group. The- Colombian gov-
ernment said all of the
countries whose nationals
are being held by the ter-
rorists have agreed to a
common front against the
terrorists.

hruth Council of Michigan,
locally under the supervi-
sion of Rabbi Jack
Goldman, has announced
that a variety of companies
will produce kosher-for-
Passover products.
Among them are: orange
juice and grapefruit juice,
cottage cheese and sour
cream, all under the Farm
Maid label; New Era potato
chips; Wesley's Quaker
Maid chocolate and vanilla
ice cream.
In addition, this year for
the first time, Detroit Pure
Milk Co. will have kosher-
for-Passover bu)termilk,
low-fat skim milk and
half-and-half, but these
must be purchased before
April 1 and will not be
marked kosher-for-
Passover.
Most of the products will
be available in local super-
markets throughout the De-
troit area. New Era potato
chips will be available
through Michigan, Chicago
and Toronto. Farm Maid
