Atlantic Monthly
BOSTON — The Atlantic
Monthly, the 123-year-old
journal of politics, litera-
ture and public affairs, has
been sold to Mortimer Zuc-
kerman, a Boston de-
veloper.
The sale price was not
disclosed.
Zuckerman is the
bachelor son of Jewish im-
migrants, who has built a
$150 million empire of
shopping centers, apart-
ments, hotels and offices in
Boston, Los Angeles,
Philadelphia, San Fran-
cisco and Washington.

TEL AVIV (ZINS) — Al-
though inflation is high in
Israel, the average Israeli
earns approximately $300
per month.
One U.S. dollar will buy
10 two-pound loaves of
bread, or four pounds of rice
or sugar. It will also buy
four pounds of oranges or a
gallon of milk.
Coffee, beef and gasoline,
however, are much more
expensive. The price of
gasoline is now $3 per gal-
lon.

NEW YORK — An 18-
year-old Long Island Jewish
youth was ordered to pay his
Jewish neighbor $100,
reimburse the neighbor's
insurance company $557,
and was placed on probation
for three years after being
convicted of burning a swas-
tika on the neighbor's lawn.
The youth poured
gasoline on the lawn in the
shape of a swastika and ig-
nited it after the neighbor's
dog fouled the youth's lawn.

Labor Leading
TEL AVIV (ZINS) — A
poll by the Dachaf institute
shows that Labor led by
Shimon Peres would win 55
Knesset seats if an election
were held now and Likud
would win only 30 seats.
The poll showed that
Likud would win 45 seats,
compared to 47 for Labor, if
Ezer Weizman headed
Likud instead of Menahem
Begin.
