JERUSALEM (JTA) —

System (CBS) who flew to
Rome last week to file a
story alleging Israeli nu-
clear cooperation with
South Africa, has had his
press credentials revoked.
Zeev Hefetz, director of
the Government Press
Office, took the action on
the recommendation of the
chief military censor, Col.
Yitzhak Shani.

claimed that Israel and
South Africa jointly tested a
nuclear device in the South
Atlantic last September.
This was flatly denied by Is-
rael.
"Nonsense, there was
nothing of the kind," De-
fense Minister Ezer
Weizman declared Fri-
day. Raviv based his re-
port on an as yet unpub-
lished book written by
two Israeli journalists,
Eli Techer and Ami
Dor-On. The book is cur-
rently under examina-
tion by the censor be-
cause it contains material
of a classified nature.
One of the authors said
he did not believe that Is-
rael exploded a nuclear
device.

Invest in Israel, Shavit Asks

NEW YORK (JTA) —
Avraham Shavit, chairman
of the board of directors of El
Al Israel Airlines, called on
American Jewry to increase
its investments in Israel.
"We are good partners to
do business with," Shavit,
who was here on a short
visit, told a luncheon spon-
sored by the Conference of
Presidents of Major Ameri-
can Jewish Organizations
at the Waldorf-Astoria
Hotel here.
Declaring that Israel is
facing now "one of its most
difficult times, politically,
economically and socially,"
Shavit said Israel needs
now the support of Ameri-
can Jews. "It is worthwhile
to invest in Israel," he, said,
adding that investments
are most needed in eco-
nomic infrastructure proj-
ects.

Shavit predicted that
despite the new cutbacks
in El Al, the company is
going to offer better serv-
ices in the future. He
urged American Jews to
use El Al for their trips.
Noting that regular air
service between Tel Aviv
and Cairo will begin March
3, Shavit said that El Al and
Lotusair, the new Egyptian
air line, will each operate
two flights a week at the
start. Shavit also spoke at a
luncheon sponsored by the
American Jewish Commit-
tee.

JERUSALEM (ZINS) —

face stiffer penalties if
caught, including prison
sentences, loss of driver
licenses, a ban on leaving
the country and heavier
fines.

Purim Footnotes
By RABBI SAMUEL FOX

1980, JTA, Inc.)
The name of the Al-
mighty is not mentioned in
the Book of Esther. It is
claimed by some that the
document was originally (or
at times) used as a message
of news (i.e., not necessarily
a holy usage). Thus, the
name of the Almighty was
omitted.
A more reasonable expla-
nation claims that there is a
message behind this omis-
sion. The role played by the
Almighty in human events
is often hidden to the extent
that the affairs in human
society seem to be nothing
more than the development
of strictly human efforts.
Some claim masquerad-
ing on Purim indicates the
hidden role played by the
Almighty.
