Women Will Visit Federation Agencies

Contributors to the
Koach and $100 First Time
sections of the Women's Di-
vision of the 1980 Allied
Jewish Campaign-Israel
Emergency Fund will have
an opportunity to visit sev-
eral Jewish Welfare Feder-
ation member agencies dur-
ing two unique "mini-
missions" next week.
The Koach mini-mission,
for contributors of $150 and
more, will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Wednesday at Jewish Fed-
eration Apartments, where
representatives of several
agencies will speak. The
group will travel by bus to
the Jewish Home for Aged's
Borman Hall for lunch and
a talk with Executive Direc-
tor Charles S. Wolfe.
On Thursday, $100 First
Time contributors will
board buses at 9:30 at
United Hebrew Schools.
They will visit the Jewish
Home for Aged and Jewish
Family Service.

Phonogift Briefing
Scheduled for March 5

Volunteers for Phonogift,
the Women's Division's
telephone solicitation drive,
will have a briefing party at
noon March 5 at United He-
brew Schools.
Hundreds of volunteer
solicitors will participate in
Phonogift, scheduled for
March 9-16. The effort will
reach more than 7,000 area
residents.
The March 5 briefing in-
cludes a Campaign update,
a presentation on telephone
solicitation techniques and
an original musical revue
written and directed by
Dorothy Mahlin.
Performing in the
revue will be Ann
Baruch, BeVerly Frank,
Cyrille Goode, Jeri Levit,
Maida Portnoy, Lois
Spector, Shelby Tauber,
Sharon Taylor, Sharon
Radom, Suzi Walters and
Elaine Yakers. They will
be accompanied by
itianist Lois Novitz.
Janice Schwartz is
chairman, and Sharon
Hart, associate chairman, of
Phonogift. Doris August
and Marcia Parven are day
directors, Terran Leemis,
coordinator, and Baylee
Franklin, adviser. Nancy
Hirsch and Faye Schnaar
are briefing chairmen, and
Harriet Colman and Julie_
Gurwin, clerical chairmen.
Dolores Farber and

Roberta Grosinger are in
charge of special handling.
Harriet -Rich heads the
Motor Corps, and Bobbie
Blitz and Nancy Jacobson,
the Task Force. Susan
Marwil and Judy Naftaly
are chairmen of Spring
Phonogift.
Additional Phonogift
volunteers are welcome. For

Metropolitan
Kick-Off Meeting

Peter Alter, a member of
the United Jewish Appeal's
Young Leadership Cabinet,
wilt speak at the Metropoli-
tan Division's "Kick-off"
meeting March 2 in the
Senior Adult Lounge of the
main Jewish Community
Center. The meeting begins
with continental breakfast
at 9:45 a.m.
Alter recently returned
from a mission to Israel
with "Hadrakha", a new
ration
Jewish Welfare Fede
leadership training pro-
gram which he co-chairs. He
is an associate chairman of
the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign Attorneys Section
and a member of the boards
of the Jewish Community
Center and Jewish Com-
munity Council.
Campaign kits will be
distributed to workers at
the meeting.
David Levine is chair-
man, and Edward Gordon,
associate chairman, of the
Metropolitan Division.
Hubert J. Sidlow is chair-
man of the Treasury Gifts
Section, and Harold S.
Jaffa, of the Special Gifts
Section. Bill Greenberg is

Mrs. Hamburger is being
cited "for a lifetime of de-
voted service and leader-
ship to Judaism and Jewish
communal life."

"Woman of the Year" and
was the first woman in
Michigan to be a recipient of
Israel's Prime Minister's
Medal "in recognition of her
leadership in the Israel
Bond program."
She and her husband are

Israel Cultural Foundation
and hosted a reception for
the Israel Philharmonic Or-
chestra when it performed
in Detroit under the direc-
tion of conductor Zubin
Mehta.

MIRIAM HAMBURGER
Mrs. Hamburger and her
husband have had a long
history of support aad in-
volvement with the Jewish
Theological Seminary.
They were among the ear-
liest patrons of the semi-
nary and served as mem-
bers of its national planning
cabinet mere than 30 years
ago.

In 1954, the Hambur-
gers opened their home
for a reception for Dr.
Louis Finkelstein, then
chancellor of the semi-
nary. The gathering re-
sulted in the establish-
ment of five endowed
scholarships in the semi-
nary's rabbinical school.

Mrs. Hamburger serves
on the board of governors of
the Jewish Welfare Federa-
tion in Detroit and on its
capital needs committee.
She also is a long-time
member of the board of trus-
tees of Children's Hospital
of Michigan. She and her
husband are members of
Cong. Shaarey Zedek and
