George F. Pierrot Eulogized;
Limericks to Be Published
Tributes to the memory of
George F. Pierrot, noted lec-
turer, journalist, humorist,
who conducted the World
Adventure Series here and
died Feb. 16 at age 82, em-
brace many areas.
As a pioneer in the Chris-
tian Zionist movement here
(see Commentary, Page 2),
he was among the most ar-
dent supporters of Israel
and his former associates in
the American Christian
Palestine Committee re-
called his interest and sup-
port.
He had a large following
in the Jewish community.
Myron Steinberg, a life-long
associate, recalls the
encouragement Pierrot
gave to his brother, the late
Morris Steinberg, in spon-
soring chess and checker
sports events.
Steinberg recalls that
his brother Morris and
Pierrot were a team in
handball matches
against such teams as
former Governors Alex
Groesbeck and Frank
Murphy. The late Joseph
Holtzman was among the
prominent Detroiters
who participated in these
matches at the Cadillac
Athletic Club.

Purely Commentary,
Sept. 14, 1979.)
Japan
Wrote verses that never
would scan
When told this was so
He said, "Yes, I know —
But I always like to get as
many words in the last
line as I possibly can.

IN BIRMINGHAM! 'N
The
GEORGE F. PIERROT
Pierrot gained national
fame as composer of
limericks. Lotally he was
called the "Limerick King."
Myron Steinberg had begun
to collaborate with him only
a few months before his
death in plans for the publi-
cation of the Pierrot
limericks. Steinberg stated
this week that he had con-
ferred with Helen Pierrot
'and had assured her that
this work of publishing the
available limericks in her
late husband's collection
will not be ignored. Thus,
the Pierrot limericks are as-
sured perpetuation.
Here are three samples of
the Pierrot limericks:
The Reverend Henry Ward
Beecher
Called a hen a magnificent
creature
The hen, pleased with that,
Laid an egg in his hat
And thus did a Henry Ward
Beecher.
(Hen reward Beecher.)
There was a young lady
from Exeter
And all the young men
craned their riecksater
And some were so brave
As to take out and wave
The distinguishing marks of
the sexater.
