JNF Issues
Purim Appeal
The Jewish National
Fund has issued its annual
Purim appeal to benefit
JNF projects, including the
preparation of settlements
and land reclamation.
Phillip Stollman, JNF
synagogue committee
chairman, said that the ap-
peal is greater this year be-
cause of the resettlement of
the Israeli population from
the Sinai to the Negev.
Synagogues and temples
will participate in the an-
nual appeal at Purim serv-
ices March 1 and 2.
To plant trees or for in-
formation, call the JNF,

Sephardim Launch Regular
Services at Oak-Woods
The Sephardic Commu-
nity of Greater Detroit
launched its regular mi-
nyan Sunday at Young Is-

gesture of friendship is
allowing the Sephardim to

Cohen, spiritual leader of

dic congregation in Roches-
ter, N.Y. Rabbi Cohen's
congregation lent prayer
books to the Detroit

it could purchase its own.
In celebration of the
launching of the minyanim,
the congregation acquired a
new Sefer Torah.
Nearly 50 persons
attended the first service,
which was arranged with
the efforts of Rabbi Sol-
omon Gaon, head of the
World Sephardi Federa-
tion and director of
Yeshiva University's

gram, and his assistant,
Rabbi Mitchell Serels.
