Materials submitted to the Readers Forum must be Olympics Must Be Moved Editor, The Jewish News: The Union of Councils of Soviet Jewry, of which the Detroit Committee is a member, began its cam- paign to have the summer Olympic Games removed from Moscow almost im- mediately after Moscow's bid was approved by the IOC. We felt that Soviet non-compliance with the Helsinki Accords rendered them unfit to host this event. We were aware that the Soviets were planning to "cleanse" their major cities of dissidents as they did dur- ing the visits of then President Nixon in 1972 and 1974. The removal of Andrei Sakharov from Mos- cow to Gorky came as no surprise to us. We knew that holding the summer games in Moscow would mean house arrests, exile and even prison for the dis- sidents. We urge everyone to write to President Carter, Senators Levin and Riegle, and to your Con- gressman supporting the Camp Recruiters at U-M Hillel The Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation at the Univer- sity of Michigan, in co- operation with several Midwestern camps, will sponsor its first camp coun- selor recruiting day 3-5 p.m. and 7-10 p.m. Monday in the Michigan League. Arranged in conjunction with the Fresh Air Society, the recruiting day includes representatives from the following camps: Chi, Herzl, Ramah, Interlochen, Tamarack and the Union of American Hebrew Congre- gations. For information, call the Hillel Foundation, 1-663- 3336. removal of the 1980 Games from Moscow. The removal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan will still not make the Soviets fit to host the Olympics. An alternate site must be found unless the Soviets halt their suppression of the dissident movement, and obey the provisions of the Helsinki agreements. G.M. Rogers, Past Chairman, Detroit Committee for Soviet Jewry Nursing Course at Home for Aged The Jewish Home for Aged has received a $2,800 grant from the Michigan Offices of Services to the Aging to develop a refresher course in nursing care of the aged for inactive nurses re- turning to practice. The course will span a seven-week period, two full days each week, beginning April 22 at Borman Hall. There is a charge. The course will have 42 hours of theoretical content and 72 hours of clinical practice. The program has been endorsed by the Michigan League for Nursing, who will award a certificate of completion at the end of the program. For information, call Eleanor Webb at the Jewish Home for Aged, 532-7112. Rep. Vanik Won't Seek Re-Election WASHINGTON (JTA1— Rep. Charles Vanik D- Ohio) who co-authored with Sen. Henry Jackson ( D- Wash.) the amendment to the Trade Act of 1974 pro- hibiting trade benefits for the Soviet Union until it re- laxes emigration rules for Jews and other minorities, will not seek re-election.
