Lawrence's wife Betty (Kushner) also attended Central. Lawrence's religious edu- cation was stopped when his father William was killed in an automobile accident near Ypsilanti in 1930 .. . Couple of years later, to help support his mother and three sisters, 10-year-old Lawrence worked as a newspaper boy on Dexter and Elmhurst, swept floors at Crow's Dairy (later Eagle Dairy), Cunningham Drug Store and Star Bakery, in addition to attending early intermediate school at Dur- fee. Lawrence's son Michael, was in the midst of plans for his Bar Mitzva in Ohio when the family suddenly moved to Florida. Last year, Lawrence's daughter-in-law, Janie, asked her husband Michael and father-in- law Lawrence to join their son Charles at the Torah. The' Shankman family will be coming from many parts of the country and Canada . . . Lawrence's mother, Dorothy, lives at the Charter House in South- field . . . Also attending will be his sisters, Frances Shepherd and husband (David) of Oak Park; Lucille Simon (and hubby Harold) of West Bloomfield; and Ruthe Gutow of Dallas, Texas. Lawrence is owner and operator of the Pullman Furniture Stores in West Palm Beach, North Palm Beach and Deiray. STATE REP. JOE FORBES has gotten out his "brain book" to come up with stories for this Monday night . . . He'll emcee the dinner honoring five new federal judges, including Avern Cohn. It'll be at Adat Shalom Synagogue . . . presented by Bnai Brith Barristers .. . cocktails at 6 and dinner at 7 . . . Honorary chairmen are U.S. Senator Donald Riegle and U.S. Senator Carl Levin . . .
