tured on the World Adven-
ture Series program at the
Detroit Institute of Art 2:30
p.m. Feb. 3.

He has produced half-
hour short films for the
states of Virginia and New

leston, S.C., and Mt. Ver-
non, Va. He also has pro-
duced a full-length study of
the early U.S.
De La Varre also is a. con-
cert pianist and a graduate
of the Vienna Academy of
Music.

soulful, out-of-work circus
clown who tries unsuc-
cessfully to hold a job in the
real world, in the picture
appropriately titled,
"Hardly Working," com-
pleted last year at the Gold
Coast film studios of south-
ern Florida. Lewis func-
tioned as writer and direc-
tor in addition to portraying
the central character with
Susan Oliver, Harold J.
Stone, Deanna Lund, Steve
Franken, Buddy Lester,
Jerry Lester, Leonard Stone
and pint-sized Billy Barty
at his side.
Following wrap-up of
production, Lewis com-
menced photography on his
next, "That's Life," which
he directed, with Molly Pi-
con, Red Buttons, James
Darren and Marcia Rodd in
the leads, and himself only
in a couple of cameos.

Choir's African
Tour Protested

LONDON (JTA) — A
proposed tour of South Af-
rica by the London Jewish
male voice choir is under
fire from the British anti-
apartheid movement, which
campaigns against cultural,
sporting and economic links
with South Africa.
Peter Hain, leader of the
anti-apartheid movement,
has claimed that the choir's
visit would give comfort to
South Africa's white rulers
and even if their perform-
ances were not segregated,
the hotels or homes they
stayed in and restaurants
they ate in would be.
The choir's conductor,
Dr. Julian Schindler, has
said that if the choir ac-
cepted it would be per-
forming only within the
Jewish community.
Hayim Pinner, general
secretary of the Board of
Deputies of British Jews, to
whom the anti-apartheid
movement has protested,
said the board is strongly
opposed to racism but that
the question of segregated
concerts did not arise as
there are no black Jews in
South Africa.

JERUSALEM — A total
of 339 persons were the vic-
tims of terrorist attacks in
the Middle East during
1979. Of the 339, 23 were
killed.
The casualties included
10 dead and 38 wounded
among residents of the
occupied territories, where
the number of incidents was
down 31 percent in the West
Bank compared to 1978, but
up 70 percent in the Gaza
Strip.
There were only four in-
cidents along the Jordanian
frontier and a 53 percent

drop in the number along
the Lebanese border. How-
ever, incidents inside Israel
were up by 56 percent.
