THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS

Danny Raskin's

LISTENING
POST

MORRIE ZUCKER
took off 30 pounds . . . but
the real hard way . . . after
six weeks, finally not hav-
ing to eat through a straw
. . Morrie had left a
pinochle game at Sid Frum-
kin's home . .. Wife Mitzi
received a call at 1:30 a.m.
that her husband was at
Providence Hosptital . . .
Pickup .truck went through
a red light on Telegraph and
Nine Mile . . . completely
demolishing Morrie's car
plus injuring people in still
another car.
Morrie was eight days at
Providence ... a very, very
lucky guy today!
BIRTHDAY CON-
GRATS ...to Celia Woont-
ner ... former Detroiter
now living in Miami Beach
. . . on her 100th birthday.
SHIRLEE IDEN (Jack)
was recently given a won-
derful birthday gift ... by
becoming a grandmother
for the second time ... on
her birth date, Jan. 10 .. .
Little Maya was born to
their daughter Elaine Iden
Cheskin living in Yamit, Is-
rael . . . Hubby Alex is a
Sabra.
IT'S KNOWN for a
unique way of program pre-
sentation that brings hus-
band and wife teamwork to-
gether as part of their many
functions ... This is a dis-
tinctive part of the Oakland
Century Lodge, Bnai Brith,
which recently elected Irv-
ing Rollinger as its new
president.
Musicians of the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra in a
special program and photo
presentation is Oakland
Century's next affair, this
Wednesday, 8 p.m., at
Knob-in-the-Woods club
house on 11 Mile.
THEY CALLED HIM
"Bruiser" many years ago
when he played football at
Northern High, Wayne
University and Central
State Teachers (now Cen-
tral Michigan University)
Old-time Jewish Com-
munity Center-ites will re-
member him as a member of
the 20th Century Club.

Rose and their two children,
Carey Weiss from Monterey
and Dr. Brian Weiss from
L.A.
She was with the Lawr-
ence Welk Show and
American Broadcasting Co.
20 years as a costume de-
signer ... Rose did the
Academy Awards while
with ABC . . . and now is
solely with Lawrence Welk
. She has traveled around
the world with Bob Hope on
many of his holiday shows.
Reason for their trip back
to the home town they left in
1943 was to help celebrate
recent surprise birthday
party for her brother Abe
Friedman (Pearl) at North-
land Inn . . . attended by 150
people ... and given by
their children, Sheryl and

Joyce, b o th teachers, and
Elliot, who came in from
Ann Arbor with wife Janet.
Elliot, who became to-
tally blind last year, re-
cently sold one of his inven-
tions . . . and is working on
mechanical devices for
blind rehabilitation ... He
is a University of Michigan
graduate in electrical
engineering and bio-
chemistry.
Also at Abe's birthday
party were former De-
troiters George and Marilyn
Friedman and daughters
Julia and Carolyn, and Ray
Friedman.
DON'T HAVE TO ASK
builder Morty Blum or ad
man Murry Koblin how to
own a $200,000 home for
under $140,000 . 10 min-
ute drive east of Woodward
where land costs less are the
Olympus Corp. colonials in
Avon ... $45,000 under
what they sell for on the
west side ... otherwise, nail
for nail, the homes are
exactly alike . . . Four of
Morty's models are on Tien-
ken west of Adams Rd.
The models are like visit-
ing a builders' and home de-
corating show.

home all over again" . . . For
30 years, they've lived on
Muirland in Detroit ... and
have painted the house from
its third floor down . . .
added paneling all over ...
and another room.
But the most thrilling
thing to be seen at a private
home cocktail party is the
hanging of 17 tapestries
made by her . . . in which for
10 years Pauline had done
her own thing . . . as she
sees everything ... in the
beautiful artistry ... One of
her largest tapestries hangs
in the Zuckerman Au-
ditorium at Sinai Hospital.
